Advice on trying Hemp oil or CBD oil for arthritic cat

I wonder if someone can help. I am no expert on this and have been reading many comments on social media about the benefits of hemp oil and CBD oil for cats. I am interested in using this for arthritis type pain.

I have an about 18 year old cat with hypothyroidism who is probably a bit arthritic and who is struggling a bit, particularly his back hips e.g. he cannot groom his back parts any more and they are getting quite matted. I think this is because he’s in pain. He has been on metacam for about a year but I’m not sure I’ve seen much benefit.

I was just considering trying him with CBD oil but somebody mentioned hemp oil instead. I have read various things about both. Can someone please correct me if what I say is wrong. I think hemp is the lesser treatment in terms of strength but they should both help with arthritis type pain. Should I try hemp first and then cbd? Or both? How do I know how much to give? Are there any better brands then others? I don’t want to give anything that might be too strong for the cat. Thank you.

I wouldn’t do this without the vets permission and I don't think their going to sign off on it.

This sounds like a vets bill waiting to happen.

I can't advise on either hemp oil or CBD but when our elderly cat was arthritic the vet recommended Glucosamine tablets, which seemed to do the trick. We now give the same ones (Seraquin) to our middle-aged cat, as he was starting to struggle to jump up on the windowsills. I was a bit more worried about him getting tablets as he's not very amenable (I call him BiteyCat on here for good reason) but he thinks they're treats - they're pork-flavoured - and comes running for them. He seems more agile and (unexpectedly) less grumpy on them. Worth a try?
