Begs for food but won't eat what we give him

Give me strength my cat begs for food all the time. I've tried every brand going right now he was having whiskas pouches and whiskas dry food. (He turns his nose up at high quality goods) I've taken him to the vet and he said there's nothing wrong with him.
He is an amputee but had his leg removed at 10 months old he's now 5 so I don't think it's related to that. I'm spending a fortune !!!! OH has told me to put his biscuits out and that's it. Don't give in to the begging and he will get the message. He is currently driving me insane !!!

The more choice you offer the fussier they get.
I've got round this by having multiple catsGrin chances are one of them will eat what I put down.
Will your fusspot tolerate any cooked fish or chicken?
Mine will eat high quality food but I do have to alternate with rubbish to keep their interest!

Agree with your OH on this one.

Mine does this. I can wait it out far longer than she can. She eats what she's given or she goes hungry. Her choice.

FurrySlipperBoots · 25/05/2021 16:51

My dog did this for years. It turned out she's intolerant to grain, fish, chicken, beef, dairy... if fact, basically everything!! Somehow she knew it wasn't agreeing with her and was going hungry instead. We eventually got her on Lily's Kitchen Lamb and Rice and that suits her. Is your kitty itchy/sneezing at all? It is possible that it's a genuine intolerance rather than fussiness.

Mine used to beg for titbits, but ignore them. Turns out she wants to be hand fed.

yeah, mine does this. We find he wants petting, playing with, a nice bed instead...basically they don't know what they want.

I agree with your DH. We have three cats and they all get the same.

One eats everything, the other two are slightly fussier but if one refuses their food, one of the others will eat it Grin I leave dry food down all the time so it's not like they go hungry. They're all a healthy weight.

I agree with PP who said don't offer loads of choice.

Has the vet ruled out teeth or gum issues? An injury in his mouth?
