Top 10 in order
Luna, Milo, Simba, Nala, Loki, Charlie, Bella, Leo, Willow, Coco.
Source: GoCompare (based on 17,400 insurance quotes) - via the BBC website this morning.

Light-hearted thread & apologies in advance to any cat with one of the names above.

What happened to proper cat names like Felix, Sid, Oscar, Colin, Bob, Sheba, Lucy, and Fluffy?
Anyone (apart from me) think most of the names in the survey are rubbish? Or am I just showing my age? Grin

I used to have a Walter.
Some old relation of my aunts we used to visit when I was a kid had a chihuahua called Tuppence.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 13/04/2021 10:07

I've always considered myself quite good at naming cats, a skill I get from my mother.

We've had
• Paddy Paws
• Toad
• Curry
• Harlequin Bogwoppit
• Columbine Bumtrinket
• Sir Brian Bathtube
• Leroy RoRoBerry PinklePurr III

First family cat was Tuppence. My mum now has McCavity, his brother Mungojerry passed away last year.

I have Luna and Milo.
As a child I had a cat called Louise and my mum had one called Jack when I was a baby Grin

Leo is a real cat name! Leo is one of the three cats at Canterbury who have been in the news a bit ...

@thecatneuterer

And I agree. Colin is a great cat name. All those in the list are shit (apologies to anyone I'm offending)

I'm fond of 'old' names - Edith, Ethel, Cyril and the like.

I have to agree Colin is an absolutely brilliant name. We also love old names but this proved difficult with a teen who kept bleating..."but it's an old mans name"

Er yes exactly the point. We registered Col with Colin Malcolm with his insurers as we were dithering, and love getting the Colin Malcolm emails

DS got his cat two weeks before lockdown and he did rename him Leo, though he wanted this name for years

Oldraver · 13/04/2021 13:43

I have over the years had

Auroral Just William nickname Willy big white Persian

Lucy, stray that turned out to be a male but kept the name as she had responded to 'pussycat' while a stray

Joseph/JoJo originally Josie until we went to the vet

Mitsi and Coco..... all I will say is that it was in my clubbing years

Ernie...Not the fastest cat in the west

Colin Malcolm...or just ColCol

I used to have a cat called Mugtree so I can't really judge.

peak2021 · 13/04/2021 19:57

Wasn't Milo the character in the BBC children's programme the Tweenies who impersonated Jimmy Savile, and the show was repeated not too long after the scandal broke about Savile's abuses?

TheGriffle · 13/04/2021 20:06

I have a 12 year old Willow (named after the Buffy character of course) her brother is called Fryboy (was initially named Fry after Fry from futurama but it has evolved into Fryboy) we’ve also had a Winston and a Jemima when I was a kid.

I now NEED a cat called Janet though!

That's a thousand times better than all those names on that list. In fact it's got a certain ring to it.
