Does your cat stare at you (not sinister!)

My boy makes me laugh. If I’m reading/scrolling on iPad etc - he will jump on the sofa to the side of me. I don’t need to look at him, I just KNOW that he is gazing at me!

Separately, if I go to head upstairs- at any point in the day - he will race to beat me up there. He could be fast asleep, but he will still beat me up there! Over the years, I’ve perfected my “catwalk’ which means I tread tentatively whenever stairs are involved 🤣🐾

When I was pregnant one of my cats flat out refused to allow me to go to the bathroom on my own 🤣 he could be in the deepest sleep but if he heard me head that way he'd be up like a shot!

He also has a habit of staring at me in my sleep in the dark - if I ignore him he pokes me in the eye with his paw 🤣

avamiah · 08/04/2021 03:05

Yeah he likes to sit on the chair opposite my mum ( she’s 85) and keep a eye on her .
And sometimes he will sit next to her while she watches tv and watch it with her .
He only does it with my mum

Aww, obviously was keeping watch over you.

Oh god, the poking in eye with paw thing - am sure they think it’s cute, but no it blooming isn’t 😂

One of ours does. He waits till about 3am so I’ll be deeply asleep, then shoves his smelly stinky fishy face close to my peacefully sleeping one and stare intently whilst purring under his breath.
Once I’m up he’ll get up stick his arse in my face and go to sleep on my pillow cuddling DH’s head.

Some days I’m too tired and don’t wake and will wake up to find him wrapped across DH’s head. I always get startled when I wake up and DH has a jet black fouffy tail sprouting from the side of his head.

I have two stalker cats. Cannot go to the toilet or take a shower/bath without them screaming and banging on the door.
Stare at me whilst I'm loading the washing machine with that inquisitive look. I'm convinced they are taking it all in and will find the. Loading it one day lol.
They jump on certain bits of furniture to stare at me.
Wake up with their face almost touching mine
Stairs and their games we are all surprised I haven't been seriously injured yet. They know what they are doing as the hazards pause to stare to see if I'm still 'chasing' them.
Unless I'm ignoring them cos I'm fed up of being head butted and screamed at they either ignore or hiss at everyone else. And you guessed it, whilst they are allowing others to interact with them they stare with a 'look what your missing out on ' expression.
Caught them staring at me through mirrors and shout when I move those.
Gap in the door, more staring.
One tries tripping me up, the other ones looks at me like he's laughing.
Weirdos.

Canigooutyet · 08/04/2021 04:09

,x hazard should be bastards although still a fitting auto correct 😂😂

avamiah · 08/04/2021 04:15

Omg this just made me laugh .
Our youngest cat just adores my daughter she is 11 and he follows her everywhere including into the bathroom.
He sits on the bath mat whilst she is in the bath and used to sit in the bathroom whilst she was on the toilet until I told her it’s outrageous and unhygienic and he has to wait outside .lol
It’s a cat .😬😬😬

Girlcat will sit on the floor just out of reach and stare at me. Nothing else, just stare for ages. I once timed her at over 30 minutes of not twitching a muscle, not even her tail, while staring at me watching the tv.

They both have learned The Stare that penetrates through the back of the PC chair and drills into my back. I can be in the middle of a fight (gaming) and I can feel the lasers.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/04/2021 14:31

Neither of mine do it. But my friends very grumpy cat will sit at his feet and gaze at him. And her daughter does it when she wants something. It's hilarious to watch him give in to her, and get the treats out. GrinGrin

It IS sinister.
They’re trying to use the power of their thoughts to control you. Never make eye contact.

AnxiousFTMFriendlyAdvicePlease · 08/04/2021 16:46

@QueenPaw - OMG Soooooo cute! 😻

ShowOfHands · 08/04/2021 16:51

6am, view from my bed...

She sits there silently and slowly blinking at me.

Yes, mine stares at me every morning until I wake up. The slightest sign of life and she flings herself at me to tell me how starving and lonely she is.

It's quite nice to know I am watched over at night... possibly.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/04/2021 17:50

I hope you got up @ShowOfHands, you’d be mad to disobey a Tortoiseshell.

She looks like she means business.

Mia184 · 08/04/2021 18:30

Micky also enjoys staring at me. Quite often, I‘m not even aware of it. She even has a quick stare whilst grooming herself (the ear did pop back after a couple of seconds ☺️)

Whenever Lenny comes into the living room, he comes and sits by his favourite toy (a feather on a stick), gives a Paddington stare at the person nearest him and then miaows at them to come and play. It's quite endearing.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 09/04/2021 19:16

'Stop looking at me'

'I know you're doing it again'

'Stop it'

'I'm not looking at you, so leave me alone'

'DP! She's looking at me again!'

I now know why kids get so annoyed with their sibling looking at them so much - it burns a hole into the side of my head at times.

She's ignoring me now, though - I made her suffer with only one breakfast today because I foolishly thought adding 3 working days onto the claimed delivery time for her would be sufficient. This was only solved when DP came home at exactly the same time as the delivery finally showed up, so she naturally thinks he has provided the catering whilst I am but a pathetic, useless minion. So she's showing me her back whilst she gazes adoringly at his face instead.

Which works for me, as the superwanky cat food she's just hoovered up absolutely bloody stinks.

Other Cat doesn't give a shit. He's just waiting for bedtime when he claim his position as Master of the Gap Between the Pillows. DP says it reminds him of when he used to have hair when he wakes up with a tail draped over his ear. Not bad for somebody who moved in here claiming that cats are outdoor creatures who, like dogs, only ever come into the kitchen occasionally and never upstairs. Oh, you sweet, innocent country lad.

SparkyTheCat · 09/04/2021 20:51

When we doesn't provide breakfast at the required time DCat1 follows a predictable four stage process:

Stage 1: sit at bedroom door and Stare
Stage 2: sit by bed and Stare
Stage 3: launch 8kg of cat onto full bladder. Stare some more
Stage 4: punch human in face

Thankfully DCat has worked out that DH is the softer touch!
