Cat is crying - 'stuck' on roof - what do i do?

Hi all

I live in a bungalow, it's blowing a gale & the cat has got 'stuck' on the roof. He won't jump to me, won't come close enough to me when I've got step ladders next to roof for me to get him, hes meowing alot. I've pulled my car close to house & wheelie bin. I'm confident that he can jump to either. I think the wind is spooking him. What do i do? Do i leave him? Or do i try to find someone to go on the roof?

Poor kitty, is there anyone why can lend you a ladder or help get him? Can you try to tempt him with food to live towards you then get hold of him?

OwlBasket · 04/04/2021 21:12

Pop a dish of wet food on top of the wheelie bin, ignore him for half an hour then reassess. I had a cat who loved to do this sort of thing. Would wail for hours if there was attention for it, never allowed herself to be seen coming down either. Lovey varmint that she was.

Move not live

Thanks both, no one i know with bigger ladders & tbh its terrible out there, no way would i go higher!

I'll give him more time, ive seen him on next doors roof before so im confident he could get down, but think the wind is spooking him. Feel awful leaving him there, the dick 🤦‍♀️

Shake the Dreamies!

Bunnybigears · 04/04/2021 21:18

Put some tuna on top of the wheelie bin and leave him to it. Left to his own devices he will probably work it out.

Loveatortie · 04/04/2021 21:19

One of my cats regularly, somehow, gets on the garage roof. We either tempt down with rattling a packet of dreamies, shake a box of biscuits. Ds sometimes climbs up to rescue him .We have learned that he makes a lot of noise but can be tucked up in bed beside us if left to his own devices. Try not to worry.

open a tin of tuna and warm it up so it smells.

Stealthynamechange · 04/04/2021 21:23

Thank you! Am going to try tuna

One of mine will sit crying outside the door for ages to be let in, completely ignoring the fact that they have just walked out of a different door about 5m away and they can also jump through a window to get in, and have indeed done that five times already today. The only way to stop the crying is to open the preferred door. Cats do sometimes seem to cry for no apparent reason because they want you to do something which makes sense in their little minds. Hope it comes down soon.

My 6 month old kitten got stuck somewhere in a neighbor's yard last night. Walls are 8 foot high and we had no ladder spend hours calling him trying to get him to cry so we could pin point where he was with no luck. We went in to get ourselves food and warm up and within 20 minutes he walked in the back door 🙄🙄 your cat will probably come down of it's own accord.

brushlaptop · 04/04/2021 21:46

Hope you get him down xxx

iknowimcoming · 04/04/2021 21:50

Can you leave the step ladder as close to him as you can get - cts will often use ladders themselves if given the chance?

NewjobOldme · 04/04/2021 21:50

Our cat went up quite a tall tree when she was younger. Dd was convinced she was stuck and spend 2 hours outside calling and cajoling and trying to rescue her. When it got d warm I made dd come in. She was followed by the cat about 3 minutes later.

NewjobOldme · 04/04/2021 21:51

Sorry - that was supposed to say 'when it got dark' .

whataballbag · 04/04/2021 21:53

I have had this problem with my cat numerous times he sits on next doors garage roof meowing like he's been shot, then when you go over with ladders he waits till you've climbed up them and just saunters off and jumps down.

Thanks everyone, he's now back in 🥳
