Recommendations please as our boy keeps hacking/throwing up and the vet says get him some anti hair ball oil but there are too many choices!

You can get hair ball paste. My friend uses the one from pets at home. She swears by it. Just don't do what I did when I tried it; I put it on the paws for them to lick off. Only they didn't. It went everywhere!!

I also have raised feeding bowls. My regular performance vomiter hasn't been sick since I got them.

Thanks! He takes the food out biscuit by biscuit and eats it of the floor, strange cat but I doubt a raised bowl would change much.

Fur balls are solid in some liquid.

Food is either all liquid or literally regurgitated biscuits.

We use royal canin and sometimes paste as well. It's worth trying a raised bowl he may go for it.

One of ours used to go through months of cyclical vomiting every now and then and take antacid for a while.
