I think I've officially adopted him now.. or he's adopted me?!

Our street has been feeding a stray for about 3 years..maybe more, now. When he first appeared he was a skinny, unwell entire male.
Gradually he got less skinny, and I managed to flea treat him, but he stayed outside at all times..til he got really unwell and I caught him, took him to the vets..no chip...had him patched up and neutered.
He still wouldn't come in so we made him a hutch and he started sleeping in that. Eventually he started coming into the hall, then the kitchen.
Then 3 weeks ago, I opened the door, he marched in, snuggled up on the sofa and stayed!
Since then he's been on the sofa..or my lap!!!! He bites, he is terrified of house noises and he likes to swipe the dog (who has taken it in her stride!) but he is also very affectionate.

Last night I went to bed, the dog came with me as usual..she sleeps on the floor. At 1am I stirred, rolled over and discovered said cat.. IN my bed..between dh and me !!!!!!!!!! When I moved a little he purred.

I think he's our cat now?!

I took him for a check up tonight (he didn't like that!) as I thought his teeth looked iffy, and yes he needs a dental. Vet thinks he's about 8 years old, and bless her refused to charge me for the consult. He's also slightly overweight now...not surprising as he has a 'desperate for any food' mentality.

His name is now officially Sebastian :) and he likes my heated throw Grin Isn't he beautiful? From skeletal scabby and flea ridden to plump beastie!

I think I've officially adopted him now.. or he's adopted me?!

Beautiful. Well done you, and what a great vet!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 26/02/2021 20:11

Aw. He's lovely & I'm so glad he's got a good home at last.

CatChant · 26/02/2021 20:11

Lovely story, lovely cat, lovely rescuer. Smile

coastergirl · 26/02/2021 20:12

He is so handsome!

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 26/02/2021 20:15

After much careful thinking, he has decided you are worthy of being his slave. 😬🤣
He’s gorgeous and it sounds like he has chosen well.

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 26/02/2021 20:16

what a great vet!

Yes, very nice of them not to charge you ! Smile

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 26/02/2021 20:17

What a sweet story.

OrangeBlossom28 · 26/02/2021 20:20

Oh isn't he just delightful! They do say cats seek out their owners and he's found you.

TheLongRider · 26/02/2021 20:22

I hope you are both very happy. It's lovely when a cat chooses you. It makes a nice change from the unfaithful Opie. Is he still living at Thelma's?

HamSandwichKiller · 26/02/2021 20:22

I'm sat next to my own former scabby stray boy cat. Still grateful every day he waltzed on in and claimed us as his own.

Congratulations 🎉

Verrucapepper · 26/02/2021 20:30

Lovely story! Thank for sharing, made my week this has. 😍

littlebillie · 26/02/2021 20:30

Love and kindness works wonders

StillMedusa · 26/02/2021 20:36

TheLongRider Yes.. the unfaithful one is still at Thelma's. Every few months we have to recapture our cat, clipper him and hand him back! (He is a swine for not letting anyone groom him properly..Thelma does try!) Sadly I don't think he'll ever come home to us..he loves Thelma!

And my other Maine Coon is moving out. Ophie adores my daughter and her husband who have been living with us for two years to save. They are finally moving into their own house in 3 weeks time, and Ophie is going with them. Perhaps Sebastian knows (Weirdly Ophie ignores him whereas she hated Obie) and knew I couldn't be catless!!!!

He huffed off after the vets but I expect he will forgive me when he's hungry enough....

@StillMedusa your cats sound fascinating!

equuscaballus · 26/02/2021 20:58

As someone you has lost a beloved cat - please get him checked for a microchip!
There are many lost cat websites and facebook pages devoted to lost cats, the RSPCA and cats protection have registers too.

purpleme12 · 26/02/2021 21:03

Oh my god this is the best story!

Eyre89 · 26/02/2021 21:04

@equuscaballus she says she did when she took him to the vet when he was a stray and he wasn't chipped

What a lovely story ❤️ he looks like a Sebastian

Mia184 · 26/02/2021 21:06

What a wonderful story! Has he returned yet for his dinner? ♥️

Henio · 26/02/2021 21:08

This made my evening ❤

EL8888 · 26/02/2021 21:20

He’s too cute! Lovely story

AnneElliott · 26/02/2021 21:33

Gorgeous. What a lovely boy.

Once cats find out how cosy the bed is you can't move them. We've had all 4 of ours in the bed with us - DH often muses it's a good thing we got a king size bed so they can all fit!!

StillMedusa · 26/02/2021 22:23

equuscaballus of course I had him checked!!! I don't steal cats..I generally have sufficient of my own!

But neither would I ignore a starved and ill one..as he was when we first started feeding him. The vet wanted to chip him today but I felt it was infringing his liberties Grin

He's back in now... tormenting the dog by sitting on me and looking smug :D

I'm actually so jealous

Nutrigrainygoodness · 26/02/2021 22:30

Congratulations on being adopted OP. Enjoy your slave life. 😁😁

equuscaballus · 27/02/2021 09:39

@StillMedusa
Sorry, I have a website limiter to keep me spending too much time on mumsnet and my time was almost up. I searched for the term microchip but forgot "chip".

I suppose i'm just hyper aware of all the lost cats out there at the moment, many aren't chipped (I know) but may still be loved and there are a lot of different ones out there.
I'm very glad he's getting the care he needs :)
