Male rescue, neutered after 3 years of access to females, and new girl kitten

My gorgeous male rescue and new female kitten are best mates and play all the time. But I noticed he tried to mount her yesterday. Should I be concerned about their future "relationship"?

He was about 4 when I got him from a multicat household, he must have had sexual access to female cats in his life.

Can he penetrate females even tho he is now neutered?
Will he try and mount her when she's adult, and basically make her life a misery?

He's the "kinda funny looking" grey - the kindest cat alive.

Is kitten spayed? IME, he'll only try it on while she's on heat, and then she'll be pretty receptive. Which is fine if he's firing blanks, whatever floats their boat.

Not sure about penetration, but the mounting is quite normal, I believe. One of my now gone male cats used to do this. The vet said it was muscle memory/learned behaviiour that will remain - and it did Confused

In our experience, the neutered male cat remembers part of what they are meant to do ... so will jump the female, but if she’s spayed, that’s kind of the end of it. The female doesn’t reciprocate in quite the same way, so the angles aren’t right, so no penetration. If she’s really unlucky it’s much more of an ‘American Pie’ moment.
Occasionally it was much more like an old
Married sit com couple moment - he got so far and she smacked him for being inappropriate... he didn’t bother again for months.

The female will sort any nonsense out.

It can also be a dominance thing as in "I'm the boss cat here!"
