Kitten food out of stock everywhere - Hills science plan pouches

Is anyone else having this problem? Kitten will only eat Hills Science Plan kitten pouches - the chicken & turkey ones. They've been out of stock everywhere for weeks (Brexit related? I don't know). I found one box of 12 of them online and I'm rationing them between alternatives, but she always turns her nose up at any alternative offered. Anyone else going through the same? Know of anywhere online that they are still available, or know the reason why they're out of stock? The best alternative we've found is to give the cans of Canagan chicken, but she gets so excited when one of the rationed Hills pouches come out, so still by far her favourite! If you've had the same problem, what alternative has your cat liked best? I'm wondering whether to just give up and give her homemade roast chicken every day

Can you buy directly from Hills? Also, vet surgeries may sell it-not the cheapest option if you want a few but could tide you over.

Thisismynewname123 · 07/02/2021 10:15

@Vinorosso74 I already asked at all of the local vets and none of them have. I've just checked directly through Hills online, but not in stock, so I assume it's a genuine supply problem everywhere.

Have you tried zooplus?

MissHope · 07/02/2021 10:23

Looks like there are turkey ones in stick but might not be the right ones.

MissHope · 07/02/2021 10:24

*stock

dementedpixie · 07/02/2021 10:27

Pets at home normally sells it. I assume you've checked there?

MissHope · 07/02/2021 10:28

Says chicken & turkey in stock Waitrose.

dementedpixie · 07/02/2021 10:35

www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/canned_cat_food_pouches/hills_feline/kitten/45962

Turkey available here

dementedpixie · 07/02/2021 10:36

When I look at waitrose it says 'out of stock'. Will depend where you live

Vinorosso74 · 07/02/2021 10:43

Ah, does sound like a supply issue. How about Amazon? I prefer not to recommend them but a kitty needs to eat.

Thisismynewname123 · 07/02/2021 10:44

@dementedpixie yes, tried all the pets at home near us, and online.
I saw this morning the zooplus turkey ones. I'll order some, but last (and only) time I ordered something from zooplus it took weeks to arrive.

Just checked Waitrose and it shows as out of stock.

@Vinorosso74 I've tried Amazon. No luck there

Zooplis has always been fairly quick when I've used them. I buy cosma snacky dried treats from there (among other things)

dementedpixie · 07/02/2021 10:46

Zooplus*

Thisismynewname123 · 07/02/2021 10:47

Has anyone used the Hills science plan kitten cans of chicken and know if the consistency is the same as the pouches? She liked the chunks in gravy. Hates pate/mousse type consistency

I was in Sainsburys the other day and the cat food aisle was very bare with a lot of empty space. I mentioned it to the checkout operator and she said she had 5 cats and was finding it really hard to find the brands her cats ate anywhere.

There does seem to be an issue in the supply chain somewhere.

Vinorosso74 · 07/02/2021 10:53

I noticed the cat food aisle was very sparse in Sainsburys too. Think I best get my next Zooplus order in just in case.....

Thisismynewname123 · 07/02/2021 10:59

I normally get all food from Pets at Home. They're currently low on all cat food. When i went on Friday I took their last two (small packs) of Royal Canin dry food as well. They said that's also running low in stock generally.

We had this with the Royal canine gastrointestinal food we used to from the Vets. They had non in stock, it's not a food you can pick up somewhere like tescos either and neither did Pets at home and all other foods make him sick and give him diarrhoea. Thankfully I still had a big bag of biscuits left over for him so he didn't starve. Fortunately PAH got some in about a week later and its actually a lot cheaper then we used to pay from the Vets. Theirs was £50 for 4 boxes whereas PAH is around £35 for 4 boxes. Amazon were just robbing bastards and wanting £75 for it

littlestpogo · 07/02/2021 18:18

Zoo plus is also out of stock of a few brands ( including the Cosma ones my two have decided are their only food of late Hmm)

Elieza · 07/02/2021 18:36

Apparently there is a cardboard shortage just now. Perhaps that’s why people can’t get pet food, the lack of cardboard for packaging?

Apologies if it’s a plastic bag the stuff you want comes in, I get a different type for my fussy feline. Grin

Plump82 · 07/02/2021 19:17

Mine eat Asda's own and I've been struggling to get that.

Oldraver · 07/02/2021 19:57

I ended up having to get a 7.5kg bag of Colins Applaws as I couldn't get the smaller ones anywhere
