Any rescue people or vets about? Bit urgent...

I’ve a real thin cat in my front hall...

I got the SSPCA out to him the beginning of December they agreed he was underweight but wasn’t thin enough to warrant being an emergency (despite me telling them he’d had diarrhoea for weeks already) no microchip, so he was released with a paper collar and I tried posting pictures of him on local Facebook sites... no joy in finding an owner.

Tried cats protection, no spaces, tried the dog and cat home, no spaces.

He’s now skin and bone, still has diarrhoea and I keep finding him out in the snow eating things like bird food.

So I’ve got him in my front hall. I phoned my vet, they’re a bit reluctant to take him - understandably as I don’t want him back, my own cat is not good with other cats, they did say they’d try and help if the SSPCA wouldn’t though.

So phoned the SSPCA about half 4... said someone would come out... they haven’t

What’s bothering me is food, he’s really really thin - like you can feel every single bone on him

So I’ve been giving him about a table spoon of dry cat food every few hours... is that ok? I know suddenly over feeding animals can be an issue and I know he’s been unwell anyway...

Thank you

I would offer to take him, if only I was closer (I'm in coastal Sussex!) and didn't already have a very possessive rescue cat.

You have done a very lovely thing OP!

Bargebill19 · 27/01/2021 00:39

You are a brilliant cat slave!

Nat6999 · 27/01/2021 00:52

Could you dissolve some sugar in the water, he must be very dehydrated as well as underweight. How is he with a litter tray?

tabulahrasa · 27/01/2021 01:21

“Could you dissolve some sugar in the water, he must be very dehydrated as well as underweight.“

His gums aren’t dehydrated feeling, so I’m pretty sure he’s not too bad anyway, skin isn’t a great indicator because there’s just skin then bones Sad

“How is he with a litter tray?”

He has used it, thank god, lol, I covered the floor as much as I could with old blankets just in case and also for warmth as it’s not the warmest bit of my house.

“You are a brilliant cat slave!”

My cat says not... not only do I not feee her wet food regularly because she’s a glutton and then throws up, now there’s an extra cat so she keeps coming and sitting on me, scentmarking my face with her chin and glaring in the direction of the hall, rofl, I’m not even her person... DD is, I’m usually a poor substitute. Apparently though, another cat being about makes me hers.

“I would offer to take him, if only I was closer (I'm in coastal Sussex!) and didn't already have a very possessive rescue cat.“

If it wasn’t for my cat I’d be persuading DP that he should stay tbh, he’s very sweet... but DP is if the opinion that one cat he’s allergic to is enough Blush lol

Have you tried lothian cat rescue at bonnyrigg? They should be able to help.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 27/01/2021 08:19

Any updates on the kitty please?

Poorlykitten · 27/01/2021 08:28

Scrambled egg is good! Dry cat food not great for cats long term...

tabulahrasa · 27/01/2021 08:41

I’ve phoned the SSPCA back - so am waiting on the animal welfare officer phoning back (again, lol)

The feeding doesn’t seem to have made him worse or anything... he still has diarrhoea, but as I know that’s been going on a long time I’m not evenly worried about it (beyond wanting him to see a vet I mean)

If they haven’t phoned me by lunchtime I’ll start phoning round everywhere again

Poor little boy. You have a good heart OP.

Shadysback · 27/01/2021 08:48

Poor little mog, I hope you can get him seen!

tabulahrasa · 27/01/2021 10:00

The SSPCA have found his owner - it’s an older person who’s been in hospital

So a relative is coming for him and taking him to the vet

Gottalovesummer · 27/01/2021 10:02

Do you think the poor little cat has been fending for himself while the owner has been in hospital?

Thank goodness you took him in.

Hope the relative will look after him now 🤞

“Do you think the poor little cat has been fending for himself while the owner has been in hospital?”

I’m assuming so, he was very thin when I first started trying to find his owner in the beginning of December... he’s way beyond very thin now.

So full update

His owner is a recently bereaved lady with a broken hip and they’ve been looking for him, but obviously a lot going on so hadn’t managed to find him recently.

So he’s away with her son for a check up

I’ve also had a message from a friend of the owner on Facebook who’s also very relieved he’s been found, so hopefully all sorted out.

Lovely to hear happy news. 🎊

Wolfiefan · 27/01/2021 13:25

So pleased you could help the cat and this family too. Happy ending.

Outdoorsywithgin · 27/01/2021 14:08

I do love a happy ending!

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 27/01/2021 14:11

Great news! And thank you for all you've done.

Shadysback · 27/01/2021 15:10

Oh that is brilliant news, thank goodness you were able to take him in, so his owner could be found. It doesn't sound like he'd have lasted much longer on his own.

CatsBooksAndCoffee · 29/01/2021 01:49

That is fantastic neesy Well done OP and God bless you. 👏
