Our little cat is lost somewhere in the loft space. He went up whilst oh was up clearing the loft and has disappeared, it’s been 3 hours and I can’t hear him. We’re in a terrace and think the lofts connect, next door have been up and can’t hear him, the next along are at work.

I’m going between sheer panic and utter depression.

As a veteran of cat up a tree for 19 hours - and also owner of loft loving cats - don't worry. Ours love our loft and will spend hours having a nose and a sniff and then will happily settle down for a nap. I think they've been up for a good 10 hours before now (possibly just for some peace and quiet) Food is a big factor in tempting them down from the loft, but they could get down any time they wanted. The 19 hours stuck in a tree was 19 hours of constant wailing because he was truly stuck. As soon as he was rescued he ran between the litter tray and the food bowl.

Boredom is your friend! This is how you’ll get him back. Well. That and snacks!
My absolute dickhead of a cat has snuck off to sulk in kitchen cupboards. Tucked round the back totally in acessible for almost a day.
Try to stay calm and not think about where they may or may not be peeing. X

Sardines in tomato sauce is crack for cats and they can smell from a street away!

3 hours is nothing.

3 hours is nothing.

Having stood at the top of two massive ladders with an open pouch of Sheba, 4 hours into the marathon tree session, I can assure you that it intensified the crying but didn't actually improve the climbing down Grin

Can you hear him yet?

thefirstmrsrochester · 19/01/2021 13:23

Another veteran of cats up trees and in the loft. They came down when hungry or bored. My kitten sat under the loft hatch crying to be let back up again after the Christmas decorations were put up there. I’m sure your kitty will be fine and enjoying nosing around a new found space.

RandomMess · 19/01/2021 13:25

@TodgerStrunk sardines is tomato is far superior, mine won't touch wet cat food 🤷🏽‍♀️

I can even put medication in it!

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 13:35

Still nothing, not even a tiny meow, he’s such a noisy boy, for him not to be making a sound I’m so worried

OP posts:
PinkyU · 19/01/2021 13:35

He’s so dopey and scared of his own shadow

GwendolineWindowlene · 19/01/2021 13:38

How can you not tell if the lofts connect? Is it not just a question of looking?

If this was our cat I'd just leave the hatch open with the ladder in position and she'd come down when she was hungry. Or if someone opened a tin of tuna in the next street.

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 13:41

I’ve got tuna, dreamies, and his food all up here and I’m sitting freezing cold calling him every 10 minutes or so.

The very lowest parts of the roof aren’t accessible to see wether the separating wall goes all the way to the corners.

We used to live in a terrace of 4 when i was a child and our cat used to do this. He could get through between the house if he got right into the eaves. Sometime one of the neighbours would hear him and let him out at their house and sometimes he would just work his way back and come down through our loft

Youngatheart00 · 19/01/2021 13:43

I really hope he’s back soon!! He’s probably just exploring...I remember when something similar happened with our old cat and the basement...he soon came back when it was feeding time.

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 13:43

I’m just so scared that he’s hurt

OP posts:
PinkyU · 19/01/2021 13:43

We’re trying to be brave for the kids but I’m so scared and worried

OP posts:
Youngatheart00 · 19/01/2021 13:45

Can you leave the loft hatch open and try and get on with your day for a bit? Cats can cause such worry can’t they!!! I always worry when ours are out and don’t come back for food quickly.

GwendolineWindowlene · 19/01/2021 13:56

My cat wouldn't come out if I was sitting there, we'd have to be completely ignoring her. Can you leave the food at the food of the ladder?

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 14:06

We’ve come away from the loft for just now and are waiting on the neighbours 2 doors down to get in from work. Hopefully he’ll turn up before then.

I’m majorly catastrophising, doesn’t help that my 10 year old keeps asking if we’ll ever see him again.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/01/2021 14:13

If you think the attics are linked put a note through everyone’s door.

EuroTrashed · 19/01/2021 14:20

The little sod is quite possibly happily asleep on someone else's carefully stored christmas decorations

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 14:21

We’ve been to our immediate next door who went in to their loft a while ago to give him a shout and shake some treats but no luck and our neighbor next to them are at work just now, I’m sitting counting the seconds till their back in.

OP posts:
PinkyU · 19/01/2021 14:21

I just need him to be ok

OP posts:
Onekidnoclue · 19/01/2021 14:57

@PinkyU you just be so worried. Cats can be such arseholes. They love us panicking. We have a Bengal who is really shouty except when she runs off and scares the hell out of us. I completely understand how worrying it is. I once slept by an open door in December because I was so scared of her not coming back in. She reappeared at 3am and was perfectly ok. I had a terrible cold and a crick in my neck for days! X

10kstepsaroundthegardenthen · 19/01/2021 15:05

He'll have found a nice soft bit of insulation to sleep on.

Just leave the ladder down, he'll be fine

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 15:58

Still nothing, not a sound

OP posts:
Mumdiva99 · 19/01/2021 16:51

You poor thing. It's so worrying. I hope he'll be back at tea time. Probably all pleased with himself after his adventure.
