Our little cat is lost somewhere in the loft space. He went up whilst oh was up clearing the loft and has disappeared, it’s been 3 hours and I can’t hear him. We’re in a terrace and think the lofts connect, next door have been up and can’t hear him, the next along are at work.

I’m going between sheer panic and utter depression.

Still nothing. I’ve got the biggest lump in my throat that I’m constantly swallowing down to keep my chin up for the kids but I’m honestly so scared

I'm sure he'll be fine.

We were putting insulation under our floor a few years ago and a cat sneaked in our front door, and under the raised floor. We could hear him miaowing but couldn't tempt him out. He eventually ran out after two days...his owner must have been worried sick, but he was okay.

RunnerDown · 19/01/2021 17:14

When our brand new kitten got stuck up behind the chimney breast we phoned the rspca who told us to heat tuna in the microwave slightly - it smells much stronger- and leave it out for the cat. It worked.
Maybe worth trying

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 17:22

I honestly think if he could get back to us, he would have by now. He’s the biggest pet ever, when you say his name he meows back, he follows us around the house, sleeps on the lo’s beds etc.

If he’s not come back by now it’s either because he’s stuck, can’t find the way or he’s been injured

Waiting on the neighbours 2 doors down to get in then will have them check

When our old puss was a kitten she loved going under the floorboards and would go missing for ages... she would return covered in soot ... and roll all over the beds xxx

Floralnomad · 19/01/2021 17:27

Is it only the 3 lofts that are at question , if so he’s got to be in one of them so should be easy enough to find and realistically what’s so dangerous in a loft that he could hurt himself . If he’s not back soon ask the neighbours if they could leave their hatch open with some food at the bottom ( provided by you ) and do the same with the other house when they arrive home .

FelicityWhiskers · 19/01/2021 17:27

I'm sure he will be fine! What are the lofts like? Are they boarded / insulated/ hoe large?

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 17:36

Just the three lofts with a firewall(?) in between each to section them off. Ours and next doors are primarily floored, I’m not sure about 2 doors down.

I'm so sorry, but I'm sure he will be fine. Cats have 9 lives, remember.

TodgerStrunk · 19/01/2021 17:59

If he's stuck or lost he will be complaining about it. He's probably tired himself out exploring.

Floralnomad · 19/01/2021 18:00

I’m sure he will be home soon , probably found somewhere cosy for a sleep .

candycane222 · 19/01/2021 18:03

are you absolutely certain he didnt sneak out again while oh was upp there looking for him?

candycane222 · 19/01/2021 18:05

honestly, ours 'vanish' for 12-15 hours at a time because they are asleep somewhere. dds bed where they're not allowed being a favourite.

CausingChaos2 · 19/01/2021 18:12

Are you certain he’s still up there? Have you left the loft hatch open unattended since he went up?

So sorry as one of mine has done this and it’s so stressful. Could you call the fire brigade for advice?

McCorona · 19/01/2021 18:12

Are you absolutely 100% certain that he's up there? No chance that he could have slipped down and be snoozing under a bed somewhere?

McCorona · 19/01/2021 18:12

Snap!
Theunamedcat · 19/01/2021 18:15

Have you looked outside? Mine got up the loft once I managed to grab him but not before I saw a worrying gap in the edge ive still got the scar from dropping him through the hatch to safety

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 18:18

We’ve turned the house upside down searching for him, we’re certain he’s up there somewhere. I’m warming tuna just now and the neighbours 2 doors down are back but the wife can’t physically access their loft so waiting for the husband now

Great minds McCorona Smile

Pinky May be a silly suggestion but have you tired shining a torch in all the corner and crevices you can reach? His eyes will reflect back even if he’s ignoring you.

CausingChaos2 · 19/01/2021 18:44

*tried

PinkyU · 19/01/2021 18:49

We’ve tried doing that with a torch as far as we can get in, in some of the gaps in the insulation even though there’s no chance he’d fit under.

Seriously, you need to chill out at a bit.

Its a cat in a loft. He will be fine. Cats are particularly stupid, but they very rarely actually are suicidal.

He'll return when he's good and ready.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/01/2021 19:05

I’d be in bits too.

TheSpottedZebra · 19/01/2021 19:17

What time would he normally have his tea?
