Is it possible that my cat is this much of an arse?

Our cat is a sweetie, he's tiny but a big eater, he's also an excellent hunter. He's been known to bring kills home more than once a day, daily. I say kills rather than "presents" because he eats them. Grim.

I've recently noticed that he only does this on days when he doesn't get his favourite food.
He still eats most of his not-favourite food but he'll be an absolute pain in the backside all day and go and get himself a pigeon to eat.
Am I going mad? Can he really be this much of an arsehole?

My farm owner friend feeds her dcats a small meal a day. The rest they catch themselves.. She says if she fed them well they wouldn't hunt.. So Yanbu to assume you are correct..

He was a farm kitten, I knew he'd be a bit of a hunter but I assumed that 3 pouches a day plus access to dry and water all day would be more than enough for such a small cat.
Looks like I'd better stock up on the right one. I hope they never change it 😂

He's not the only one! Ours definitely goes out on the hunt more, when he's dissatisfied with our meagre offerings!

Shitonthebloodything · 01/01/2021 22:06

I can't believe it's taken me so long to work this out!
Hilarious! I've definitely underestimated him.

I have a cat like this! She will go hunting and eat what she catches when she's turning her nose up at what I'm offering (which is perfectly good, quality food). She's a fussy little madam at the best of times and must always have a spotlessly clean dish to eat from, sometimes won't even eat from a dish. Doesn't have a problem guzzling a pigeon on the floor though Hmm

Tbf my dd feeds her dcats way way too often. 1 still brought a huge rat home last week!! The other one ate a worm on her light grey carpet!!

Like Balaur boy cat rarely finishes a meal we give him but supplements his diet with a range of small squeakers. We've stopped trying to feed him more to stop him hunting, because it was just making girl cat fatter...

Oh and the question 'is it possible for a cat to be this much of and arse', well, ALWAYS Grin

I could have written this post myself. My cat is being arsey about his food and for the last few days I've been finding half eaten mice all around the back door. Even found a tail on the doormat - little shit!

lljkk · 02/01/2021 11:53

Oh yeah, totally; my cats turn up their noses & go out & kill something instead. Killing is 'fun' not work for them, anyway.

Allergictoironing · 02/01/2021 15:50

My indoor cats had a field day when some mice decided to set up home in the conservatory. However they weren't in any way interested in eating them - once they were dead so no amount of prodding or throwing them about would make them move, the cats would wander away leaving me the (thankfully intact) corpse to deal with.

lljkk · 02/01/2021 18:17

DH puts corpses in the food bowl. Sometimes they get eaten there.

Shitonthebloodything · 12/01/2021 22:17

You were all right. He's been back on the whiskers and not a pigeon in sight! Have stocked up accordingly Grin
