Where did you get your cats from?

We are looking to get a new cat (or 2) - can I ask where you got yours from and how (un)complicated it was? I've started looking at a local shelter and RSPCA, what else is out there?
It's obviously all much less straightforward at the moment due to COVID, no visits to the shelters etc to meet potential matches, has anyone done this recently?

First cat was rescued by my aunt in the 1970s from a university animal testing lab. A bunch of them went in and released loads of animals.

Second cat was RSPCA.

Third was via a friend- stable kitten rejected by his mother

4th cat was from a pet shop. I was 16, went in and bought her then took her home on the bus and explianed to my parents. She lived 23 years.

5th and 6th cats DH found them in a plastic bag beside a road near a park-their eyes were mot even opened.

7th (mine) she followed me home from work, walked in and i advertised her as a lost cat with no one coming forwards. She was my most beloved cat- and i moved 3 countries with her in tow.

8th cat from the RSPCA.

We still have cats number 6 and 8.
