Is my cat a genius (or just annoying)?

My 7 year old male cat has started gathering socks from anywhere he can get his paws on them and depositing them in the living room. He gets them one at at time but generally drops them so they make a pair (genius). Sometimes he spends some time humping them before going off to collect more (annoying) even thought he was neutered as a kitten.

Anyone else have a cat with a sock fetish?

My oldies have a slipper/shoe fetish. Drag them on to the floor, then chew and give them a good kicking, before waltzing off with the smug satisfaction of a cat, who has successfully killed its prey.

That's so cute. Bless his ....cotton socks.

One of my past cats had a total fascination with socks, would try nipping them to get a grip while the owner was still wearing them, the begging eyes 👀 for you to take your shoes off.

The total joy as he tried to peel the socks off gently, usually trying to lick the foot/toes and humping the foot. Rolling around sniffing and pouncing more than the rolling stones with equal amounts of inhaling intoxicating....

After all this excitement he would retire to his cat tent to enjoy his ill gotten gains and I would retrieve the loot for the next load of washing. Bad 😺 mummy that I am.

I used to come home with loads of plastic thermometer prove covers in my pockets. (I'm a nurse) The late Maia, Who I didn't think was very bright, would knock the bin over to get them. I was astounded, that she knew how to get them. I'd then find them all over the house. I'm beginning to wonder if Snorg is quite as dim as she appears.

Op your boy sounds adorable!

Our cat knows if he meows in the front porch, the front door opens.

What he doesn't know is that we have a security camera that sends me a notification when he meows, and I send a WhatsApp to the kids to open the front door.

I have notifications most nights of him randomly meowing at the door and looking puzzled when nothing happens.

I'd forgotten that cheddar has recently realised that socks are dangerous snakes and must be killed. It's the first time she's ever really shown an interest in anything.

Now you know what to get her for Xmas - a multipack of socks!

Glad I'm not the only one with a weirdo.Grin

Bargebill19 I wish he just hunted them. He seems to always choose while we're eating to do his humping and makes a loud crooning noise while he does it that you can hear all over the house.

I have notifications most nights of him randomly meowing at the door and looking puzzled when nothing happens. That's brilliant! I wonder what he thinks is happening?
