At his last check up they said his heart murmur was now grade 4 and he'd lost a bit of weight. He went through a stage of vomiting a lot about 18 months ago and after a lot of tests ended up on ant acids for 6 months that seemed to do the trick.

We declined a new round of tests (same ones) started back on the anti acids about 2/3 months ago but the last couple of days he's being sick a lot.

Sad

He is 13 and I'm sure they will want to do lots of very expensive tests but I really do wonder what they could find that would be treatable and him have many more years. I suspect he has heart failure as his heart murmur has slowly got worse over the years.

He is an absolute sweetheart, he was a night time nanny to our youngest and I can't imagine our home without him.

Obviously I'll be booking a vet appointment ASAP Monday but I'm not hopeful tbh.

😢

Hand hold from here Flowers

You'll do your best by him.

DramaAlpaca · 22/11/2020 02:15

Another handhold from me Flowers

Toddlerteaplease · 22/11/2020 08:58

Heart failure is treatable. My girl lived for 9 months after her diagnosis of HCM. And act dies of kidney failure. She was completely asymptomatic and you'd have never known. But if you think it's fine, then it probably is.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/11/2020 08:59

And I understand about not wanting to expensive tests.

RandomMess · 02/12/2020 09:31

Well he had lost 0.5kg in weight Sadheart murmur no worse.

They ran thyroid and kidney blood checks which were fine.

Changed any acid to omeprazole. Took until Tuesday night for him to really eat again and started Mrs Thursday. Real struggle to get him to eat any wet food, much prefers his kibble 🤦🏼‍♀️

Still regurgitating food at least once most days.

However I have just witnessed him chase and very nearly catch an adult squirrel 🤷🏽‍♀️

I guess wait and see a bit longer and next option from the vet is a scan of his stomach etc but the one a couple of years ago for the same symptoms showed nothing Confused

Hi OP, glad to know he is feeling a little better and not any worse.

My 10 year old DCat was diagnosed with a heart murmur a couple of weeks ago, she's had a nasty cough for months and get kept getting misdiagnosed with cat flu. Turns out she has fluid in her lungs from her heart pumping blood the wrong way sometimes and she started medication yesterday. I've only had her for 9 months, she's one of 4!

Sending you lots of love xx

Paranoidmarvin · 02/12/2020 20:12

Mine has a heart murmur too. And I worry all the time. But his is a grade two. Please let us know how y get on.

RandomMess · 02/12/2020 20:30

The vet rang today, wants to give it another week or so and then for us to weigh him to see if he has managed to gain any weight.

If he's lost any then really it's going to be a scan.

He has always been prone to regurgitating his food, we always assumed he ate too much too quickly.

Mine did. I changed his food and lifted up his bowl and it all stopped. Not sure which one stopped it.

RandomMess · 02/12/2020 22:36

Can't really get him to eat anything but kibble 🤷🏽‍♀️

Flowers

We lost our cat a few months ago to cancer. My main regret was leaving it too late - she was not in a good way when we had to take her in as an emergency (the vet said "you're okay for one last weekend" but as it turned out, she wasn't).

tootyfruitypickle · 04/12/2020 14:23

Have you tried different food? My cat ended up only being able to eat the sheba pouches, everything else made her sick.

RandomMess · 04/12/2020 14:50

@tootyfruitypickle he turns his nose up and pretty much everything 🤷🏽‍♀️ he's not even interested in chicken or fish unless it's sardines in tomato sauce...

RandomMess · 10/12/2020 22:35

We have found one Lily's kitchen flavour he will eat if it's kept in the fridge!!

He sleeps loads. Less vomiting for sure but perhaps I need to bite the bullet and have the scan.

Hope he’s ok @RandomMess

Itsnotagazebo · 12/12/2020 08:12

Sending love to your cat and you. Our cat is 14 and incurable health condition. I wish he could tell me exactly what hurts, when etc....

RandomMess · 12/12/2020 08:56

He's gained weight, perhaps he's just making sure we appreciate him...

Stilling go out and demanding to be towel dried on demand when wet 🙄

Clearly currently traumatised...

Think it's the beginning of the end for DCat :(

Does he like the good quality kibble? Some of its terrifically high in calories which would be good for him if he’s losing weight.

I wouldn’t write off any cat who nearly caught a squirrel because their fast as fuck.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 14/12/2020 20:44

🥰🥰

RandomMess · 14/12/2020 20:54

Yeah he's on sensitive digestive system science plan and sometimes knobbles his sisters royal cannin hair ball control stuff.

Plus cat crack (sardines in tomato sauce)

I have tinned fish and even I think the Waitrose ones taste better, and I’m not a brand person usually.

MsJudgemental · 14/12/2020 22:19

Our beautiful boy, 13 1/2, suddenly became ill in August with lethargy and vomiting clear foam. It took three days and two veterinary practices to diagnose him with FIP- feline infectious peritonitis- which is fatal (less than 1% of cats get it), and he had to be put to sleep. Ask your vets to check whether this is a possibility.

babychange12 · 15/12/2020 10:01

He's gorgeous
Is he a rag doll?

RandomMess · 15/12/2020 11:27

No a Somali gorgeous breed very dog like and super bonded with their slaves.

I just checked his special food and it's Hills Prescription.
