Feeding a cat a mix of dry food and proper meat/fish

DCat eats True Instinct dry food, it’s a complete food, high meat content and DCat really likes it.

We have struggled to find a wet food that DCat will consistently eat except Whiskas which (as I understand it) is akin to feeding them McDonalds so not ideal.

I don’t know if it’s ok to just feed a cat a dry food but thought it was best to also feed a bit of wet?? Anyway, as wet food is proving to be a challenge for us, is it ok to feed 90% dry food with a bit of chicken/turkey/fish That I cook at home instead?

To be honest, we feed Felix which is just as bad as Whiskas because it's the only wet food all of them eat reliably. I've bought all the expensive, fancy foods and they just end up in the bin!

I don't see an issue with what you're proposing but I think there are worse things than eating Felix and Whiskas as long as they have a good quality dry food alongside it.

We only feed dry food. I believe this is fine. DCat is quite young though, I think it’s when they get older that dry food only can become an issue if their teeth aren’t up to it or if they aren’t drinking enough.

Dry food is better for their teeth and also means we can leave it out for her to help herself during the day, so more natural than timed feeds.

DCat drinks heaps so I guess so no issue with offering dry only and he always has access to the dry food.

He does like to be fed something else of a morning/evening though, he seems to know it’s meal time and meows for it.

I’m just wondering whether it is advisable to feed ‘human’ food every day or whether that’s too much? I would only give a small amount so he still ate sufficient dry (complete) cat food

We give a small amount of Thrive treats alongside the dry food (as a lunchtime snack), these are literally just dried out fish or chicken. Dcat absolutely loves them and will come running when she hears the container . You could look at those if you wanted to add something?

Raw feeding is good for filling them up. True Instinct do a frozen raw. It’s in little bites and defrosts quickly. It’s mostly pure chicken but has the benefit of added extras (vitamins etc) that they wouldn’t be getting if you gave them home cooked chicken. It also has the benefit of portion control as you’d know exactly how much to give using the table on the packaging.

I don’t, I just had a similar train of thought as you with my cat so did a bit of research about it. (and now feed them one meal True Instinct dry and one of the raw a day.)
