If I have a cat who climbs curtains and clothes horses

Shes going to climb a Christmas tree isnt she? I've not had a tree in the 4 years we've lived here for one reason or another. We finally thought we'd get one last year and then got 2 wee kittens. Theyll now be a year and half but Freda is a climber. Im wondering if its going to be more hassle than its worth!

I got round that by getting a medium sized fibre optic tree.
I dont think I've ever had a cat that doesn't climb the Christmas tree and blat off any baubles they can reach.

Oldraver · 23/10/2020 11:11

We attach our tree to the wall, at least it doesn't come crashing down

Plump82 · 23/10/2020 11:17

We live in an old building and i dont trust the walls wouldn't crumble away! We got a cute mini one and put it on a tall unit last year but they can get up there now. Might just need to go wild with fairy lights at an attempt at looking festive!

we tied the tree to the wall last year!!

Toddlerteaplease · 23/10/2020 12:01

I'm going to get the Jelly cat Christmas tree . Because I don't have space for a proper tree. Would that count? My good would just ignore a tree anyway.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/10/2020 12:01

Girls.

I have the naughtiest kitten in the world, now 18 months old and nothing much has changed. I was worried about the Christmas tree last year but to my surprise she was not really that interested in it apart from the decorations on the bottom. They might surprise you and be the same.

Plump82 · 23/10/2020 13:23

Oh i dont know. We're currently boxing in a boiler and have constructed a frame. They think theyve won the lottery with this. I fear they would thing the same about a tree!!

We also have a kitten who is a bit mischievous. A friend of mine has suggested getting a bottle and filling it with rice, shaking it when the kitten does something naughty and it scares them off - I haven't tried it yet but apparently it's quite effective

MyTwoBengals · 23/10/2020 14:05

We also tie our tree to the wall

I’ve got a clothes horse climber, she doesn’t climb curtains though, and last year she only showed interest in chewing and bashing anything she could reach from the floor, she didn’t make any attempt to climb the actual tree so you never know!

viques · 23/10/2020 17:40

One of mine climbed up the chimney, from the inside. With brand new unhealed stitches. Luckily she came down again by herself. I don’t think it was a “checking it out for Santa thing”, just a cat thing.

I don’t know how a pp can even consider boarding in that lovely cat climbing frame they have put round the boiler. Imagine those sad little faces.

Plump82 · 23/10/2020 17:50

@Viques - well they're luck is in as we're going to build them some sort of climbing thing at the end of our hall. We have a long hall and very high ceilings so that should keep them entertained. As you can see just to the right of the picture the curtains wrapped round the pole. We cant have them down during the day as Freda claws her way up them. We had to take the livingroom ones down permanently as they were 10ft long and she was getting herself up and then getting stuck!
@MyTwoBengals your picture is my fear!

@Plump82 And if ever you sell your house that will be the sale clincher!

Well it would be for me.

BedsAreBurning · 23/10/2020 17:57

We've not had a tree for 16 years because of our cats. 🐈

Plump82 · 23/10/2020 18:19

@viques hahah the blurb will have to say perfect for any cat owner! That's actually a good point, we'll need to make sure anything we do is easily de-constructed!
@bedsareburning i think i might be the the same.
