New flat, have stairs going down to the garden - ok for cat?

We've just bought a new flat, it's first floor with stairs down to our section of the garden, directly off the kitchen.

Is there anything I should think about before getting our cat? I worry about them potentially being injured in the night and not being able to get up the steps.

Erm I think you might be underestimating the ability of cats to climb - trees, walls, curtains, even stairs Confused

Is there a catflap through the door to the outside or you might find yourself going up and down the stairs yourselves to let it in and out and in and out and ...

My mums next door neighbours cat climbs up the outside of her house to get in the bedroom window. Yours will manage stairs with no problem!

You should ideally keep your cat in overnight. I can’t see an issue.

As Wolfie says you should keep cats in at night anyway - so I can't see the issue.

Mine jumps from the window ledge up onto the top of the conservatory roof. And he is 12. It’s far !
