Best sensitive cat food?

Following on from my other thread about my poorly cat the vet says the cat needs to be fed sensitive cat food from now on. So fingers crossed if this works and becomes a permanent thing can someone recommend a budget friendlyish but still decent sensitive food?

The cat is used to dry food and the vet said it’s fine to carry on with dry food.

Even the sensitive stuff didn't help cheddars vomiting. I swapped her from RC Persian to Iams vitality. She's gone from vomiting 4-5 a week to once a month and now less. Since I've cut out dreemies.

Hmmm. Cat has been on Iams Vitality for over a year, initially it seemed to help but she's worse than ever now. She doesn't have any dreamies/treats.

Vet has said if no better by the start of the week they'll start her on steroids but they seemed confident that a diet change to extortionate cat food will cure her. :)

So is it just dry food you're looking for? Does the Iams have grains/cereals in it?
Mine eat thrive dry and encore dry - they are both grain free and high meat

The Iams is only 40% chicken and has maize in it as well.

I'm currently scouring zooplus for grain free, high meat content stuff. The Thrive looks good.

I make up a mix of thrive and encore in a cereal pourer tub and the cats seem to like it

I use Royal Canin Sensible 33 for my two and find it very good.

I use swear by feed Attu and my cat was transformed (as was the dog) its grain free but after a year he was vomiting everyday and his skin rash returned. He's now eating AVA ("advanced nutrition veterinary approved") sensitive skin and stomach, I buy it from Pets at Home. Skin rash gone (again) and he's putting on weight and his fur looks amazing.

I thought it might be, my cat is really fussy and seems to like it which is an added bonus.

Out littlest is having applaws dried after constant diarrhoea since we got her. It's 80% meat and totally grain free and her stomach has been so much better. We are slowly introducing a bit of Lily's kitchen wet food.

I went to pets at home yesterday and ended up with Ava Sensitive. I’d actually decided to go for the ultra expensive royal canin hypoallergenic stuff but they didn’t have it. The Ava seemed the best out of what was there. Cat seems to like it, hasn’t been sick since starting it so fingers crossed.

I bought the AVA because I was annoyed that the Attu was causing him to vomit give him a skin rash and I was standing in pets At Home reading the bags hoping for something good to leap out at me and as it was much cheaper than many of the others I thought I had nothing to loose.So far I'm delighted with how good it's been fingers crossed it last.

Yes, the price was an added bonus but It looks good quality as well.

Cat is being sick again.

On both the Royal Canin sensitive dry stuff and the AVA. Both are grain free and single protein (I think). So maybe she's allergic to chicken or maybe it's not a food sensitivity at all.

Have you tried wet food?
How often are they being sick?

Our cat had digestive trouble when he was really young so the vet put him on prescription food until the symptoms calmed down. If they didn't, that would have suggested the problem was something else not triggered by diet. But he did get better after a few months, and then we were able to switch to Royal Canin Sensible dry food and that's what he's been on since.

However he wouldn't have recovered in the first place without the prescription food first. (And if you thought Royal Canin was expensive, holy moly... £18 for a small bag if I recall!!) The special food was made of venison and pea ("novel proteins") and he was on it until all traces of any other food had left his system and the reaction was gone. Only then were we allowed to change to the RC food. It was pretty funny though, his poo was pea-green!!

She's been sick at least once a day for the past couple of days. Before that she;s had about a week of no vomiting and before that when we took her to the vet she was being sick a few times a day.

We haven't tried wet food - can that sometimes be tolerated better? Seems more expensive again!

I've just emailed some company who do a hypoallergenic insect based cat food and asked for a sample. The blurb says it's very good for allergy type cats. Never thought I'd be feeding the cat crickets!

Wet food has extra moisture which you cat will be losing by being sick. Is it food that's coming up? Hairballs?

It's been semi digested food for the past couple of days.

a week or 2 ago it was liquid brown stuff, looks like diarrhea but definitely vomiting it up.

Are they eating too quickly and then puking it back up. Maybe try one of those slow feeder bowls

We've got. a slow feeder bowl its also raised and at an angle I changed the bowl and the food around the same time so am not sure which has helped but so far no regular vomiting for 3 months.

One of mine kept getting really bad hiccups after eating. We bought the raised and tilted bowls which have helped.

Good idea, I'll find something to stand the new bowl on so it's raised as well as a slow feeder bowl. Thanks.
