Kitten arriving in 2 weeks time, it will be 10 weeks old by then...

It's currently eating whiskas kitten food so will stick with that initially but want to wean them onto something healthier. As with all cat foods it seems like a minefield so would appreciate some advice!

I am guessing kitten food is different nutrition -wise to adult food, but anything in particular I should be looking out for in the ingredients?

Our Big cat is on a diet so they won't be eating the same anytime soon...

Also, when should I start swapping the food? I presume I should let them settle in for a week or so first?

I have been watching the jackson galaxy videos about introducing the cats so will try to follow those steps as much as possible and keeping fingers crossed it goes well....

we were planning on DS's room being 'base camp'. Do kittens sleep at night or are they like human babies?!?

Any other kitten tips? I haven't had a kitten as an adult - i want t make sure we're braced for it!

How will you prevent that then?

When our latest kittens arrived the older cats made a beeline for the kitten food Grin.

Haha! Yes will need to plan this... at least that will be one postitive for him with having his new ‘friend’

What's wrong with their whiskers kitten food?

I weaned my off wet food and on to dry. My kitten has eaten kitten and adult dry food as I have an older cat. Did give her kitten milk but her mum had left her at 4 weeks.. She's very healthy now.

Thanks for replying.... we’ll keep whiskas kitten food for the time being, but would prefer something a bit healthier long term. Don’t really want to give food with sugars/grains.

My kitten is on wild freedom kitten food wet and dry is on royal cabin Persian kitten, but plan to move him to wild freedom. He can’t tolerate any grains in wet food and is a horrendous food thief, steals from the kids plates given half a chance and then has the runs.

Zooplus has lots of better quality kitten food than the average supermarket.

jobnockey · 12/10/2020 19:43

Thanks @Didicat... Zooplus does have a great range of food. Big cat used to like animonda Carny and I notice they do a kitten food So maybe I should try that as it’s quite reasonable priced. I just wondered what I should look out for but I guess high meat content in general?

I use Applaws for Colin, he was on it at his precious home. He also has the occasional bit of raw meat

His poos are as lovely as cat poo can be. We have a visiting cat who has the most vile poos

I mean how do you bring it up with the neighbours ?

jobnockey · 13/10/2020 12:53

@Oldraver that made me laugh! I feel like i can distinguish my own cat's poos in the garden too. he buries his all nicely in a bit of earth i've prepared for him whilst neighbours cat does horrible squirty poos everywhere and doesn't even cover it up.
