From run of the house to 2 rooms?

We are in the process of investigating pet friendly alarms following a burglary. How much would it affect our 2 cats to be confined to 2 small rooms at night, at least in the short term, so we can use our alarm?

You can use an alarm with a car. They don't affect it. My parent's do.
