Are any vets around who can identify these little critters?

Just been to have a cuddle with my cat and noticed what at first was just some black specs of dirt on his tail. On closer inspection, they look like some sort of mite I think I am certain they are not fleas (one was still alive and was moving very slowly, but not jumping) but I have no idea what they are. I have removed quite a few, they seem to be on his tail only and he is treated with Stronghold every four weeks. Is there anything else I should do?

Well if they're dead and dying the spot on must be doing its job.

I'd just keep combing them out and see if you can get a really clear photo that can be enlarged. Or take a sample to the vet for IDing?

I did wonder tick from that first photo. Given the place a good hoover anyway.

Thanks all. I also thought they looked like tiny ticks. I think the stronghold must have worked as apart from one, they were all dead.
