How often do you change water in cat fountains?

Just that. Currently doing it twice a week as they hold 3L each.

I used to do it daily.

Daily, bacteria can build up quickly so prefer to keep on top of it.

Every day, just as I drink fresh water myself

Since they happily drink manky water in the garden. I doubt they care about it being fresh daily!

what you're doing sounds absolutely fine. That's the point of it holding so much!

Can't believe people would change it daily.

They drink much worse stuff and lick their bums constantly.

I just top up my cat's bowls when they're running low and wash them every couple of weeks

I used to do it twice a week. Started doing it daily after maggots appeared overnight in the water one summer. It doesn't take long!

Dishwasher once a week, topped up daily.
One of mine still refuses to drink clean water and has a nature dish outside with leaves and the occasional slug.

I thought the whole point of the filter was so it didn't have to be changed daily?

My honest answer is once a week - and then Leroy won't touch it for two days because it's not manky enough 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Throwing 6l of water away daily seems very wasteful to me. Which is why I don't want to do it daily.

Mine run for a drink as soon as it’s cleaned.. they know the difference.

I think 6l is one toilet flush in a modern bathroom.
