Can anyone give me some advice on which would be the best insurance to get for my boy?

I am umming and ahhing and struggling to understand what is good and what is not. My ex dealt with everything insurance related so other than comparing and seeing which is cheapest with the most cover I have no idea where to start!

Obligatory photo included. He is called Griffin Grin

Bought by Many gives good cover at a reasonable price. Look for lifetime insurance so that if you claim it can be covered again when the insurance renews

Shop around on comparison sites, you can get some good deals but make sure it includes everything you want! Beaut cat 😻

You MUST get full life cover not just 12 months. Anything that crops up under 12 months cover cannot be covered without considerable huge expense when renewing.

Tesco have been fab with my huge claims!

Bargebill19 · 10/09/2020 19:31

Just to say he’s gorgeous and what a wonderful name.

Agree with pp - you should definitely go for a policy with lifetime cover, this way you have no worries if your cat develops a long-term condition. Pet Plan aren’t the cheapest, but they have NEVER quibbled over a single claim and are very quick at reimbursing.

Financial bod here - PetPlan or Bought By Many lifetime policies may be slightly more expensive to begin with, but they'll cover almost anything as a kitten usually has no pre existing conditions.

Also, most vets are happy to invoice these companies directly, rather than you paying the bill and reclaiming the money from your insurer.

Quote for our pedigree Ragdoll is £16 pm for £7000 a year limit - pretty good!

We use Tesco (lifetime) and they have settled claims with no quibbles.
Whoever you go with, be prepared for the premiums to rise really steeply as the cat gets older. And it's not easy to chop and change every year the way you do with cars. You can do that, but a new provider may well not cover any pre-existing conditions (which would be covered on a lifetime policy with your current provider). So whichever provider you choose, you need to be fairly sure you'd be happy to stay with.

We used petplan for our last cat, but it's more expensive and they didn't seem to provide a better cover than Tesco.

We're with Tesco and have claimed once for 1 cat, and several times for a recurring issue on another of our cats. They have been great!!

yy to the lifetime cover though, we don't have it and might impact one of our cats if the above recurring problem happens again! I've never costed it out though tbh

TimeToGetMeBack · 10/09/2020 21:46

We use Tesco too here.

Sooo cute 😻😻

Furries · 11/09/2020 00:00

Just realised - I forgot to say how blooming cute Griffin is! Please keep the litter tray updated with photos 💕

I bought insurance yesterday- I went with animal friends. I did a comparison then checked reviews. Previously friends had suggested it would cost about £12ish a month. (It's £12.50 per cat for the cover I chose).

SpearmintPeppermint · 11/09/2020 14:35

PetPlan - always been brilliant for us.

SuperlativeScrubs · 15/09/2020 18:10

Thank you all! Had a good look around and settled with Tesco.

Also, he is home and he is settling in SUPER well!
