Height-loving cats - does anybody have cat shelves?

Has anybody built climbing shelves etc for their cats? I am guessing they need to be really sturdy (but would like a cheap option).

Our kitchen clothes drier isn't designed for 9kgs of squabbling cats (it was quite cute when they were tiny!), but Girlcat clearly enjoys being up high (as did a previous oriental in our old house).

Madcats are really grumpy in this wet and windy weather!

Seen stuff similar on eBay but want a fortune for them. Even have a wee ladder going from post to post. Do you know anyone good with woodwork?

Madcats · 25/08/2020 15:00

ludo19 do you have a big cat? (off to check Zooplus).

PS we have that cat house. too. Ours just use the top bit to stare out the window (I don't think they have even been inside for more than 5 seconds)!

I have two Ragdolls. A Siberian forest crossed with a Burmese and a big tuxedo so yeah big enough lol

I know right! I spent a fortune on cat trees etc.....They use them to nap on lol. How many cats do you have?

Maybe I'll take another look at IKEA floating shelves - we have a good drill but don't do much with wood - I could at least put some books or pictures in them if they were deemed unacceptable. The bespoke stuff on Etsy seems really pricey if it is going to be ignored.

I just have the two meezers to cope with.

One of mine likes to be up high, he broke one of my airers Angry. He likes to sit on top of doors and will just scrabble his way up so I've hung a rug on the door and wedged it open so he can get on my tall bookshelf. If I bought cat shelves he'd probably decide he liked being on the ground Grin

I think I posted about ours before. We bought tiny shelves from B&Q and shaped shelf brackets. Two of those leading up from the back of the sofa and a very large one over the top of the door, using the door frame as the back support. Each cat is about 5kg and there's one asleep on the door shelf right now. Every now and again there's a bell pull across the doorway and we have to be careful! Grin

Shelves are 23cm x 30cm with Form Antik Steel Shelving bracket: each one cost £14 total.

Big shelf is just a 4' long, 30cm wide board with larger matching brackets, so the cats have more space to sleep. I think that was about £20 in total.

They're covered with carpet tiles, cut to fit and hot glued on. Cats can get a good claw purchase so don't fall off.
