Saying goodbye to my best friend in the morning

My beautiful girl is getting PTS tomorrow morning.

She's at least 15 (rescued 14+ years ago and wasn't a kitten - had been found with her litter of kittens by someone)

She's been the best cat ever. I love her so much, she was so nervous when I got her but with some dedication she came out of her shell and loves and trusts me so much. We know how each other is feeling and thinking and I'm so sad our time is already over.

Just so so very sad. I don't know how I still have tears left to cry but they won't stop coming.

Please hug your kitties close tonight. I know this pain won't be forever. But it's so awful and I'm dreading tomorrow that I can't be with her when she's PTS. Stupid Covid.

2020 is so shit.

no one would think any the worse for you for grieving for a dearly loved friend. If they do they can get stuffed

By now you should be home...I am so sorry Sad

This must be so hard for you. Last year, I had to say goodbye to a 19 year old cat with failing kidneys, and like yours he was still eating and moving but had got very, very thin and was obviously in discomfort.

Some months later I looked at some pictures I had taken of him in his last days, and I could see much more clearly how ill he had been - you get used to it to some degree and can let yourself think the cat is OK to go on for a while, but I knew looking at those pictures after a gap, I hadn't let him go a moment too soon.

I hope you will feel able to let yourself grieve for your beautiful cat today. Flowers

Its so heart breaking, I'm dreading the day I have to make the decision with mine. Thinking of you today

Thinking of you 💐

SaddestDay · 31/07/2020 16:24

Thanks so much everyone.

She was put to sleep just before 11 this morning.

The vet couldn't have been lovelier and she was very peaceful.

I'm feeling rubbish of course but not as bad as yesterday as now I don't need to worry about my girl.

Thanks again. I wish all of your furry friends long happy lives.

So sorry you had to say goodbye to your darling cat. It is such a hard thing to do, and I hope that you find comfort in the fact she is no longer in pain. Flowers

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 03/08/2020 22:10

Hi OP - I meant to come back sooner, but had a problem logging into my account. Flowers for you, and the other posters losing their beloved pets.

stophuggingme · 03/08/2020 22:14

Just want to send you love
I know myself how rotten and hard this is

You did the very best thing every day for her all her life and today was no different.
She will have known until the very end you loved her and she did you.

I am very sorry
The pain is awful. They are very special creatures and I miss my little cat so dreadfully
Take care of yourself 💖

Bless you, OP. This thread is making me cry a bit and comforting at the same time.
Our lovely old boy Bertie, 18, has kidney failure and, exactly the same as mentioned upthread, is skin and bone and just so clearly uncomfortable. He's tucked under a blanket on the sofa, on a puppy pad, as I type. It's a matter of a couple of days at most before we say goodbye and it's utterly heartbreaking.

It's this, isn't it, which is so hard to get right but is absolutely true. We're trying to get it right, for Bertie.

Oh @little0miss0mac

I'm so sad I only just saw your reply. X

Poor you and Bertie.

I'm so sorry you are going through the pain. It's awful.

I will say the day we put my beautiful lady down was incredibly sad, but it actually wasn't as heart wrenching as the lead up was. Knowing she was suffering and that the day I'd dreaded since I fell in love with her was coming.

It was comforting to know she was at peace and a weight that I wasn't having to worry about her any more.

I won't lie I've cried every day. But now I'm just sad for me. Not both of us.

I hope knowing Bertie won't be in pain anymore can help you find a bit of comfort.

We've opted for private cremation and getting a nice urn and little memory area at home has been a big comfort too. I may get some of her ashes made into a piece of jewellery too, but not sure how many there will be as she was only a small cat. X

Sending you lots of love.

It takes time, OP.
I still have my old mog's things in my garage 18 months on from having him PTS.
I still can't let go of that last little bit of him.
Thanks

little0miss0mac · 06/08/2020 19:11

Thank your, @SaddestDay. Tomorrow is the vet visit and it's absolutely the right thing. Big mutual hugs.

SaddestDay · 06/08/2020 19:38

@little0miss0mac I'm so sorry xxx

It was a week ago now we had our last night together and honestly even after just a week I'm able to feel happy for her memories and not much of the crippling heartache I had.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow. Thank you for giving Bertie the love you have. He's a lucky boy. Xxx

That's so kind of you. He passed away on my lap with his head in my hand in the very early hours of Friday morning. We were all pretty much in pieces yesterday.

It's so hard, isn't it. Grateful for little videos we've taken over the years, to remember him when he was well and not so terribly ill. Hugs to you and everyone who's going through this.

Gatekeeper · 08/08/2020 14:25

I am so sorry little0miss and saddestDay

such joy and love they give though...what is there to regret. Both Star in the sky

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/08/2020 14:42

@little0miss0mac That’s awful, I’m so sorry.

@mineofuselessinformation I still have a litter tray I can’t wash out and a wrecked scratch post dismantled under my bed.
