Please help - my kitten pisses everywhere except the litter tray!

My female kitten is 8 months old and has been with me since she was 8 weeks of age. She was reasonably well litter trained (used Catsan litter and preferred an open litter tray) but prone to the odd 'wee accident'. We got her with her brother and he has always, without fail used the litter tray. Unfortunately she has carried on weeing outside of the litter tray at least a few times a week, e.g. by the back door, on duvets, baskets of washing, rugs and our 2 leather sofas. She has free access to the back garden during the day and prefers to wee there or anywhere in the house other than the litter tray. In fact she often wees on the floor next to the litter tray. She has been checked by the vet, has had cystease capsules, and we have feliway plug-ins. There have not been any changes that might provide a behavioural explanation eg no new cats to the neighbourhood, no changes in the household etc. I'm desperate to solve this so please, please post any ideas you have!

Yeah, there are downsides Grin
But possibly better than kitten wee?

PissingKitten · 27/07/2020 19:23

At this moment in time anything is better than kitten wee Grin !

Sanicat ultra clumping gold. Talcum powder scented,

Try it. It’s softer on paws.

Thanks Fluffycloudland77, I've just added it to my next Ocado order. Fingers crossed!

Maybe try not cleaning it quite so quick after they have used it. It may be that the smell of cleaner and the lack of smell of her are confusing her? I clean my cat's tray daily but she is using it less and less so hopeful I can get rid soon (cat is 8 but we've only had her a year)

Puppy pad by the back door which is her favourite night time peeing spot.

Makes it sound like she's trying to head out to the garden. Perhaps time to train them with the cat flap? Or at least her.

3 weeks on I just wanted to update you all on the situation which is now resolved! She definitely prefers puppy pads and rejected all other forms of litter (I tried many!), So I placed the puppy pad inside an empty litter tray (it has a clip on rim so I fastened the puppy pad under the rim) and she has been using it ever since. No accidents since. She always prefers to go outside if she can but if she can't she will use the puppy pad in a litter tray. Thank you all so much for your suggestions, it really helped me both in coming up with extra ideas and reassuring me that I was doing everything I could. Flowers
