Kitten food & stinky kitty farts

We adopted a 10 week old kitten from the RSPCA on Thursday (mandatory photos hopefully attached!). He was eating Felix kitten pouches at the rescue so we have some of that for now, but want to gradually switch him to a better quality food.

His poo has been fine but he is a little stinker - so any recommendations for kitten food (wet & dry) with low fart production?! Grin

Our adult cat (currently sulking) has Hills T/D dry food and James Wellbeloved pouches.

James wellbeloved does kitten food too

My kitty does really stinky farts and poos too, I don't know if it is just a kitten thing. She is still on the expensive royal canin from the breeder so no idea on recommendations.

dementedpixie · 18/07/2020 15:53

Royal canin isn't that great as it contains cereals/grains that's cats can't digest well. Ideally looking for grain free and high meat

Gingerkittykat · 18/07/2020 19:52

The older cat eats Royal Canin urinary and hasn't had an infection since he started it so need to keep him on that but will look for grain free for the little one.

One of ours (the little black one) was eating too quickly and therefore was a little fart monster. She had worms too. One day we had someone coming so put her litter tray behind a chair and hoped she would poo before the woman came so we could get rid of it. No such luck. Just as the woman sank down in the chair , the cat made a beeline for the tray. The smell was eye watering...

Our rescue cat used to smell really bad, as did her poo, and she was fed Felix as good as it looks. We have gradually moved away from felix and she no longer smells, and the litter tray is much better too. We have just tried other supermarket brands as she seems to eat anything, whiskas, sheba and tesco own brand have all been fine.

I keep on recommending this on here, but our kittens (nearly 1 now) had atrocious farts and diarrhoea. We tried lots of foods and decided to go grain free. And we ended up with Sainsbury's own kitten, then cat food.

Our kitten does evil silent but deadlies. It’s a good job he’s cute.

Do kittens actually need kitten pouches or is it an expensive con? Are the kitten formulations genuinely more nutritious than the 1+ pouches?

BovaryX · 30/07/2020 11:32

Has he had a worming tab? That condition can cause this and it stops once treated. It is just a tablet, you can ask vet.

RomComPhooey · 30/07/2020 13:06

Yes, he’s recently wormed.

Toilenstripes · 30/07/2020 13:10

I’d give him time to settle in. My rescue girl was farty for a couple of weeks After we adopted her. She will only eat whiskas, but I intend to introduce some better quality food in the future.

I found felix as good as it looks made our kittens bum stink. It was rotten 🤢

RomComPhooey · 30/07/2020 13:16

He was on Felix pouches last week but seems better on Sainsburys kitten pouches this week.
