I'm not sure though I gather a lot of lockdown kittens have been dumped
We are a hard family to suit a cat - two noisy children, one with ADHD - and then there's the road issue - I gather that the peak age for cat fatalities is 2 (she was 3, then there's the lockdown issue) but an older cat who's set in their ways wouldn't necessarily be right for my DCs. We can't fence the yard and it's a tiny Northern back yard so we couldn't have a catio. DD is still in nappies at night so I'm just really disliking the thought of a litter tray if we got an indoor cat. At least we have no other pets and we could get two now (I thought previously about getting a second cat but getting one that our Dcat would get on with PLUS one that would get on with the kids would be horrendous).
I have told the DCs we can't get one at the moment because of the virus (they understand this is a good reason for a lot of things).
CPL is shut (unless they are taking on new foster carers), the local shelter is shut for cat cuddlers I think (they did open for a bit but I think they have closed again). One of the other rescues is open for new permanent placements but as I say we will continue to be a really hard household to match.
(And remember the original reason I persuaded DH to get a cat was because of the rats! I know we won't necessarily get a good mouser - we might get a cat that's totally not bovvered - but I suppose having the smell around might help).
