Lovely cats! I'm an occasional poster here, need to stop by more often!

We are enjoying the last rays of summer here. Mum (grey) and daughter is their places in the undergrowth by the garden wall.

Lazy son who treats the place like a hotel in summer is cooling off on the tiles after a big lunch!

I've been leading Dexter astray and showing him how to climb a tree. He was a bit unsure and chickened out

Dad has made me a ladder for as I cry to come down, so I just went up the other one. Ha that will teach him

Up the wrong tree

TheLongRider · 22/09/2020 14:40

So are Colin & Dexter best of friends? I just realised that Colin Dexter was the author of the Detective Morse books!

Colin looks as if someone tried to photocopy Dexter but the toner was running out.Smile

Having a bath as she has shitty paws. She doesn't like me any more. 19 year old cats have dirty litter tray habits and it is not amusing when they turn up on your bed at 5am and you can smell it, and it is all over the duvet cover Hmm

Oldraver · 22/09/2020 17:08

Well friends loosely. Colin being the kitten just wants to antagonise Dexter so they play fight and chase each other and Dexter looks rather exasperated. It's funny though as it's just like he was with Ernie

Col goes into the garden and cries then Dex appears. Or Dexter will come to the patio door. There have been a few kisses as well

Sorry to be a total downer on here but I didn't want my own thread/to post anywhere else as I've also posted on FB.
Our lovely black and white girl, just 3, was run over today (of course the car didn't stop). We all got to say goodbye (DCs are 8 and 6) and DS lovely SEN teacher rang him to say how sad she was after I messaged her.
Just in a state of shock. It was really near our house. DH had to clear up; luckily the DCs and I didn't see it.

TheLongRider · 22/09/2020 19:06

I'm so sorry for you and your family. Flowers

Thank you, I don't think DD has taken it in properly, DS worked out when I was on the phone to DH what had happened. He's going through denial/anger at the moment (DS this is!)

nettie434 · 22/09/2020 19:22

That's really awful drspouse. It is so sad that your girl was so young and that the driver didn't stop. Sympathy for you all for your loss Flowers

drspouse · 22/09/2020 21:04

I've just read that more cats have been killed on the roads since lockdown ended because they had got used to quiet roads.

DidSomebodySaySiamese · 22/09/2020 23:10

@drspouse I’m shocked! How awful I remember when you got him and it helped me make my decision on getting a kitten.

Take care.

Kisforkaylied · 23/09/2020 09:13

So sorry drspouse Unmumsnetty hugs.

My old boy is mainly sleeping, as usual.

Oldraver · 23/09/2020 09:34

So sorry DrSpouse

We had a boy run over, it comes as such a shock

drspouse · 23/09/2020 10:10

Thanks all, still reeling here. The DCs seem to be coping by talking about getting a new cat. I'm trying to rein them in somewhat but it's hard. DD got in bed this morning and I thought it was Dcat, and I heard a noise that I thought was Dcat licking herself.

TheLongRider · 23/09/2020 12:14

You'll get a new cat when the time is right for you. It'll never be a replacement, the joy of cats is that they are completely different in personality. Is it possible to foster cats in your area?

I'm not sure though I gather a lot of lockdown kittens have been dumped Sad
We are a hard family to suit a cat - two noisy children, one with ADHD - and then there's the road issue - I gather that the peak age for cat fatalities is 2 (she was 3, then there's the lockdown issue) but an older cat who's set in their ways wouldn't necessarily be right for my DCs. We can't fence the yard and it's a tiny Northern back yard so we couldn't have a catio. DD is still in nappies at night so I'm just really disliking the thought of a litter tray if we got an indoor cat. At least we have no other pets and we could get two now (I thought previously about getting a second cat but getting one that our Dcat would get on with PLUS one that would get on with the kids would be horrendous).

I have told the DCs we can't get one at the moment because of the virus (they understand this is a good reason for a lot of things).

CPL is shut (unless they are taking on new foster carers), the local shelter is shut for cat cuddlers I think (they did open for a bit but I think they have closed again). One of the other rescues is open for new permanent placements but as I say we will continue to be a really hard household to match.

(And remember the original reason I persuaded DH to get a cat was because of the rats! I know we won't necessarily get a good mouser - we might get a cat that's totally not bovvered - but I suppose having the smell around might help).

drspouse · 25/09/2020 22:35

We have found out we can still go and cuddle cats at the shelter (we are already on the list as volunteers). Just waiting for an appointment. Should be really good for the DCs (and me).

TheLongRider · 26/09/2020 00:12

Oh good, that sounds like a good solution at the moment.

This is getting silly now!

One of my cats keeps leaving me a dead mouse (sometimes two) on the path in my back garden.

Every day! A whole mouse! He doesn't even eat bits of them. Just murders them and leaves them for me to find.

I mean, what does he think I'm going to do with them?

I suppose I could stitch them all together and make a furry quilt, but I'm not that creative!

I feel really bad for the poor little things.

Bloody murderous cat!!

I still love him though! ❤

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 29/09/2020 14:56

He always puts them in the same place on the exact same paving stone.

It's obvious he thinks he's bringing me a present, isn't it?

drspouse · 29/09/2020 15:39

No, he's showing you how to do it. You are obviously so dense that he needs to give you the exact same instructions each time.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 29/09/2020 15:47

How do you mean, drspouse?

Am I missing something here? HmmConfused

maggiethecat · 29/09/2020 17:04

@wheresthatcatgonenow - think he's bringing you your dinner Grin
