How to stop cats using my garden as a toilet

There's no point speaking to neighbour as there's nothing they can do. I wouldn't expect them to keep cats in and it's not like you can train a cat!
I've tried a spray on that patch of lawn but they just moved to a different patch. I've tried putting a small ornamental cat sign up as I was told they might think it's real and avoid coming in our garden. That didn't work (wasn't very hopeful but worth a shot!) I'm not prepared to do anything daft like out spikes on fence etc.
Anyone got any safe, friendly ways to stop this. I actually don't mind them visiting, it's just the toilet ting and killing my lawn off. Help!!!

We had a huge problem with cats usinggour garden as a toilet and now we don’t! We use diluted Flash All Purpose Lemon Cleaner and spray the garden every few days. No problems at all now. I used to have to clear the garden every day yuk - absolutely vile Hope this works for you

I was always told to scatter got chilli powder around to put them off. Didn't kill any plants or grass in the process.

Lemon. Put lemon around your perimeter. They hate the smell.

Lemon juice or lemon zest should help.

You can buy electric water jets that fire water at intruders.
