My cat seems to want to eat sweet things, any idea why?

He has always tried his luck but recently he has been desperate to eat Jam and homemade fudge

He is driving me crazy

Does anyone know why - is it some form of cat diabetes? Or is he just weird?

Ginger beer even!!

Unless your cat lets you clean his teeth, I’d make sure he never gets fudge. It’s sticky, and will adhere to his teeth, causing dental caries.

My cat used to love jelly. I used to get the type in the little yoghurt sized pots and she would wail like she was being starved until I have her a bit (and then get her head suck in the pot!).

they like salt and, depending on diet and deficiency, will lick your skin or even some clothes for it.

that explains the marmite

My mum always said it was the salt in marmite or butter which the cats enjoyed. That would account for crisps too.

My first car (got when I was 3 so nearly 60 years ago) loved chocolate
One of my cats would eat anything as long as there was tomato in it, another adored leftover cold veg.
One of our current cats will try to crawl into your mouth after you've brushed your teeth so great is his love of mint (not surprising, they all love catmint don't they?)

They are strange and lovely individuals.

My cat is never bothered by chicken, fish etc. and we can eat a main meal unbothered but as soon as desert comes out she won't leave us alone! Her favourites are sticky toffee pudding and chocolate cake, she goes nuts over them CakeCake

My old cat loved homemade chicken curry. As soon as you started making it she'd go bonkers with excitement - her teeth would start 'chattering'. She was never that bothered by any other type of cooked chicken. Current cat loves lettuce and crab.
