Do you bath your cat?

That? I've never bathed mine but it seems to be something people do a lot on TikTok

No, I value my skin gouge free thank you very much.

MashedPotatoBrainz · 20/05/2020 16:11

No as I don't have a death wish.

HelpMeh · 20/05/2020 16:11

God no! Unless they got dunked in something sticky I wouldn't dare try!

I've had my felines for 8 years and they don't smell at all. They're very efficient at keeping clean.

If I recall correctly though, I think hairless cats need bathing (Sphinx?).

SassenachWitch · 20/05/2020 16:16

My cat has had one bath in all of her 12 years, and that was when she fell in whilst chasing my toes 😳

Cats don’t really need bathing, apart from Sphinx, they’re very sweaty and smelly, and even then I think they just need a wipe down.

My cat spends approx 5 hours a day washing, usually her bum at the bottom of my bed from about 2am 🙄.

Springersrock · 20/05/2020 16:17

God no.

One of mine fell in when I was in the bath years ago. I still have the scar on my thigh

I value my life too much to even attempt it

dementedpixie · 20/05/2020 16:17

Are you insane?!

I had to bath mine once when he was caked in mud. I was scratched to ribbons from the escape attempts and mud was all over me by the end. I wouldn't repeat it voluntarily

katie43210 · 20/05/2020 16:19

Christ almighty, NO. She's like a gremlin, never get her wet.

wizzbangfizz · 20/05/2020 16:20

Wizzcat is very docile but I wouldn't dream of bathing him he would die of shock I suspect! You are confirming my thoughts and glad to see I'm not in a minority.

I remember a cat of my parents came home covered in curry and had to be bathed - the scene and screeching in the bathroom was something to behold.

When I was younger my parents had a long haired cat who liked mud!

He was bathed since probably a year old every 2-4 months until he got much older. He loved it but he was used to it

Thecatisboss · 20/05/2020 16:20

Dcat has had 1 bath in 19 years. This was after the infamous falling in the paint tray episode. Emulsion went everywhere (as did the cat) luckily I was out and DH had to clean up walls, floor worksurfaces and the cat and then bandage himself afterwards as the cat was not impressed.

TorkTorkBam · 20/05/2020 16:21

Why? Why would anyone do that?

Mine has fallen in the bath three times. The first time he was so freaked he pooed in the bath.

acatcalledjohn · 20/05/2020 16:21

Unless they have a skin condition that benefits from a bath then no, why inflict that on a cat and yourself.

To be fair though, TikTok is mostly used by people who do all sorts of stupid shit for likes. Sadly its demographic has shifted quite noticeably from teens to adults, so it has become much more mainstream.

No! Mine only got bathed once after a paint mishap, but he was a placid cat, and was as good as gold.

Watto1 · 20/05/2020 16:26

Only once. He came in through the cat flap absolutely caked in mud. Think he must have fallen in a ditch or something. His fur was sticking up in clumps. He looked like a hedgehog. He didn’t like it but was ever so good really. I think he knew we were helping him. Still, not an experience I want to repeat any time soon!

SorrelBlackbeak · 20/05/2020 16:29

We bathed our cat once after a navy blue paint incident but it actually made everything worse. He leapt out of the bath shrieking spreading watery blue paint everywhere.

ManualFlusherSnot · 20/05/2020 16:35

When I was 9, my mum got me two kittens as my present. They were my pride and joy. I still had some birthday money left over, and whilst in the range (flagship store in Plymouth which used to be called CDS ) I was in the pet section (being a good new pet owner) and saw a cat shampoo! I bought it thinking I was an awesome cat owner, not realising cats hate water! When we got home I begged my mum to wash my kittens, she happily obliged, and then my cats scratched the shit out of her arms, chest and shoulders! I felt so guilty!
Cats hate water normally!

TokyoSushi · 20/05/2020 16:37

Gosh no, DCat is 12 and has never had a bath, he keeps himself smart and clean at all times!

TokyoSushi · 20/05/2020 16:38

Although when we first got our dog, I had, for some reason thought that they were' self-cleaning' like cats, I was very, very wrong!

Areallthenamestaken · 20/05/2020 16:47

I've bathed my cat twice but that's because he has epilepsy and when he has a very bad seizure he loses control of his bladder and obviously can't control where he lays while having a fit. He gets quite smelly and he doesn't like being dirty so we give him a quick wash. He hates it but I can see he feels better after. I try to avoid it though because it takes two of us to do it.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/05/2020 16:47

My groomer does. I don't think it's necessary. But Snorg is very compliant and has clearly been bathed before. And she looks ridiculously cute when wet.

IncrediblySadToo · 20/05/2020 16:48

Only the once when the daft thing came in covered in oil & crap. It took two of us and was not an experience I ever wish to repeat.
Do your brain a favour and stop
watching that crap!!

poppet31 · 20/05/2020 16:48

Tried it once after she was ill and needed cleaned up. Never again!

Shmithecat2 · 20/05/2020 16:51

No, never have done, never will do. I value the skin on my arms and face too much.

lockdownbreakdown · 20/05/2020 16:52

Back in the eighties when the flea collars didnt work we had to wash our persians every summer with flea shampoo, when the inevitable happened. We wore Marigolds but I still bear the scars. We never tried it with the moggy as we would have been in hospital but she never seemed to get fleas. Weird!
