She's missing

My beautiful cat hasn't been home for 24hrs now, I know it's not that long in the grand scheme of things but it's so unlike her, she's so shy and timid and never stays out overnight! I'm going out of my mind, literally crying on and off all day! It's been so windy today and she's petrified of the wind I'm hoping she's just been hiding out waiting for it to drop and will toddle home soon! Please tell me your happy endings for my long night ahead 💤

My indoor-only cat got out after a friend left the kitchen window open when they were round. No sign. Left cat food on kitchen window and saw it was at least being eaten , until I saw a neighbour’s cat eating it. On the 3rd day my next door neighbour saw me putting it out and asked if I was looking for a cat (new neighbour and had never seen cat as it was always inside), it had been hiding under his shed, daft thing couldn’t find its way next door thru the open kitchen window! All was well that ended well after 3 days of worry and panic.
She’s been passed away 4 years now but I still instinctively shut my front door as quickly as possible when I leave the house.

I really hope she’s back soon, it’s so worrying and upsetting when they go missing .

My mum’s friend’s cat disappeared for 6 months then sauntered in out of nowhere, walked up to where her food bowl used to be kept and started twining to be fed as if the last 6 months had never happened 🙄

Please keep us updated x

Cats are survivors, I'm sure she'll be fine. My grans cat once went missing for 6 weeks and it was the most pampered cat in the world, he was absolutely fine when he got home. Still expected to be pampered at all times.

Try not to think the worst.

Chickydoo · 13/05/2020 22:57

I know the feeling well. I've had quite a few nights waiting up for cats to come. One of mine went missing for 3 days, but she was fine when she came home.
Try & get some sleep, get up early when it's light but quiet.
Good luck

G3m81 · 13/05/2020 23:09

My cat regularly disappears for 24 hours or more, the first time she did i I was out of my mind with worry! It's always around this time of year when the weather is better, in the winter she doesn't go far. The other one couldn't be more different, she's a proper homebody and doesn't venture too far. She'll come back when she's hungry and probably act like nothing has happened.

TroysMammy · 14/05/2020 07:18

I know the feeling. It's been a week now that Haribo was rescued after being missing for 3 nights. He'd jumped onto a shed and went through the perished plastic on the roof and was trapped. The house was unoccupied.

Put up posters, knock doors, go out when it's quiet and call her. Read the advice on my thread Haribo is missing for tips.

I hope your cat returns shortly.

Thank you everyone! I'm glad your kitty's came home! I'm hoping today is the day and she comes home 🤞🏻

Hoping for you OP 🐈 Flowers

Rldx2 · 14/05/2020 08:07

@TroysMammy Thanks, I've read your post it's given me hope, I literally let her out to go to the toilet at 10pm like normal, she normally comes straight back as she doesn't get fed until we've locked up for the night, so I'm not sure if many sheds will have been left open. We've done the rounds of local streets, knocking on doors. Think today I'll have to print off some posters and post them in local houses! She's now missed 4 meals and really beginning to worry

@AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff thank you! I'm hoping today is the day 🤞🏻

If she has a litter tray put it outside

Rldx2 · 14/05/2020 08:17

@slipperywhensparticus thank you, she doesn't use a litter tray but I'm hanging her bed blanket on the washing line during the day! I'm fully prepared for her to be annoyed at me for that and refuse to use it on return but I read somewhere she would be able to smell it from quite a distance

Want2beme · 14/05/2020 11:39

I really hope she's home with you very soon. It's such a worry when they wander off Flowers

Sparklingbrook · 14/05/2020 11:47

Fingers crossed for you OP, and I have a couple of missing cat stories for you

My neighbours cat was missing for a week, came back grubby and a bit skinnier-probably locked in a garage. This happened twice.

I found a stray cat outside. Long story short after a week or so I managed to get it to the vets for scan. It had been missing for 6 months, from about 2 miles away.

Don't give up hope.Flowers

Rldx2 · 14/05/2020 16:32

Thank you @Sparklingbrook and @Want2beme. I've now posted flyers and put posters up in the local area! I'm really hoping I'm overreacting and she'll just stroll home soon

@Rldx2 Am hoping she's back really soon.

Rldx2 · 15/05/2020 08:30

Thank you @userxx she's still not home and I'm beginning to lose hope now 😞

OP posts:
userxx · 15/05/2020 09:03

Don't lose hope, I know it feels like an eternity to you but it's been 3 days. Try and keep positive, easier said then done I know 😞

Littlepoppet1 · 15/05/2020 09:10

Hope your cat comes home soon OP, don’t loose hope yet!

thecatneuterer · 15/05/2020 10:24

I would knock on doors of the say 12 nearest houses again and ask them to check their shed/garage while you wait. And (as people
probably don't want strangers coming through their houses at the moment), if they have a side entrance to the garden, ask if they would mind you checking the garden yourself. The most likely scenario is that she is stuck somewhere not far from home.

Allergictoironing · 15/05/2020 10:39

DSis's cat was gone for a whole month before he was found, so don't give up hope.

IncrediblySadToo · 15/05/2020 11:09

Hope she's back soon.

I've read (From a specialist) that you shouldn't put things outside. Apparently it encourages other cats and it they then mark and it puts your own cat off coming back. (Or something like that, but putting stuff out was definitely discouraged).

When my boy cat went missing, we knocked door to door a couple of days after posting notes through doors. That's how we found him. The neighbour was sure he hadn't opened his garage, but we talked him
Into letting us look and we went in a side door & my boy was in there. Luckily we got the bloke to go in as when we did Silly boy cat had got stuck in the roller door & if the bloke had Tried to open the roller door to get his car out it would have ended badly 😢

Knock, stand back, and ask people to please go and check - it's easy to forget having been in a garage or shed.

Rattle the dreamies 🐱

TroysMammy · 15/05/2020 11:51

Do you have any tall trees nearby? A local cat was missing and they found her stuck up a 30 foot tree. A tree surgeon went to rescue her but she slipped his grasp and ran off. She's now back home.

It's now easy for me to say don't lose hope and don't give up because I was in your position just over a week ago and I felt the same as each day went by. I was so desperate I even asked The Litter Tray to pray for his return and I'm not religious. What is your lovely cat's name?

Have you contacted local vets, put her on Facebook local lost and found animals, local Cats Protection page, the local shop, pharmacy, contacted your microchip company to change her status to missing?

Rldx2 · 15/05/2020 12:12

We have been out daily, knocking on doors talking to neighbours, venturing out to roads further away from ours we've made and posted flyers, put posters on lamp posts. I've phoned the vets and posted on many local social media pages, I genuinely feel like we've done everything we can so I'm printing more flyers and going even further today as I don't actually know what else to do! Her name is Florence and she's beautiful, maybe slightly biased of course 😊

Rldx2 · 15/05/2020 12:14

@TroysMammy we do have some tall trees close by but they're close enough for us to be able to hear her if she was stuck up one, I think our neighbours are going to get annoyed with us soon as my husband has been staying up late to call her when it's quieter

BreadmanAndCake · 15/05/2020 12:17

I'm sorry your going through this - so stressful and cats really pick rubbish times to mess us around!!
Just as a bit of a success story, or two, many years ago our cat who we'd only had for a couple of months decided to go out for a 20 day jaunt. Returned one morning minus his collar but absolutely fine otherwise.
More recently, last Easter our cat decided to take herself off for 11 days. We did everything we could to find her, she just pottered back into the garden one evening looking totally unfazed.
I know you've probably already tried, but I've heard that shouting for the missing cat at dusk, especially on a still evening, is best.
Keeping my fingers crossed your cat returns home soon x
