Oh my God. The cat has rolled in fox shit. How do I clean him?!

It's all over his head and shoulders. He STINKS. He likes to sleep on all our furniture (including in the baby's cot) and rub his head all over everything.

How do you wash a cat?! What kind of cleaning product do you use? DH says he's just not coming back in, but that seems cruel for a much-spoilt lap cat.

Help!

Grin Well, at least someone enjoyed it!

Thank you all so much for the advice. In the end, we wrapped him in a towel and scrubbed his head with cat shampoo (thank you especially for the tip about not turning on the shower, I definitely don't think he'd have coped with that!). He is now traumatised but clean, DH is scratched to buggery, and I keep giggling inappropriately.

All's well that ends well! Gin

Oh, and also, thank you Beamur for the advice about the increased asthma risk. I didn't know that and will definitely need to change the handle on the door so that he can't get in anymore. Flowers

Glad you’re all sort of ok. Wish I’d known about the shower years ago when our girl had a disgusting bum and long fur. She hooked a claw through my arm and I couldn’t untangle her. Ouch. Shock

I think I would just have made him an outdoor cat for the rest of the month.

I was just looking for help and i came across this post.
My ginger tabby is an outdoor boy and ive never really had issues , just the usual half eaten rodents on my doorstep.
Tonight tho he has come home with what smells like sheep poop plastered all down one side, head to toe.
I presume he rolled in it thinking he would smell great. he did not.!!
I know he hates a bath so I planned ahead.
I pre ran a small bath and I wrapped him in a towel and thought worst case I can leave him in the towel while I gently wash him. I asked my Da to assist (after all he is hers)
Anyway ..
Total bad idea, as soon as the water touched his feet he was out of that bath faster than sonic the hedgehog I tried to persevere but it was impossible to hold him
In the end I gave up on the bath and was reduced to washing him with a bath towel sized flannel on the bathroom floor. He looks loads cleaner except he still smells.
I'm at a loss what to do now , so I wondered since the last post has anyone heard any cat bathing hacks I would really appreciate the intel
