I have 3 10 month old house kittens 🙂 currently on dry kitten food. Wondering if when I can look to move to indoor cat food? All three pretty chunky 😂😂 been spayed and inoculated and microchipped.

Photo for attention 😂😂

I think ours were on adult food from six months, but it was wet food we fed.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/01/2020 09:47

What does it say on the pack?.

Wolfiefan · 27/01/2020 09:47

I was told after spaying.

swampytiggaa · 27/01/2020 09:53

It says 12 months on the packs but then I’ve seen advice saying after spaying.

I know kitten food is higher in calories etc and at least one of them is getting quite weighty.

I’ve got a couple of weeks worth of kitten food left... might start mixing some adult food with it after my next shop

The might have a growth spurt yet. When my boy was a kitten he went through phases of being lanky, then chunky, then grew up to be a sturdy cat.

I was told that their calorie needs reduce after neutering/spaying so mine switched around 8/9 months maybe. Remember to phase new foods in gradually

Haffdonga · 27/01/2020 20:27

Our vet said 6 months and/or after neutering. Kitten food is usually higher in calories but good different brands of adult food may actually have more or less calories anyway.

I think kitten food is just a marketing gimick to make you pay more for the same thing

Haffdonga · 27/01/2020 20:28

And by the way, gorgeous felines!

swampytiggaa · 27/01/2020 20:37

@Haffdonga thank you! They are very lovely 💕

Right then. I think I’ll get adult food next shop and add it to what they have and see how they get on.

We've got two kittens the same age. We accidentally fed them some adult wet food (picked up the wrong tins) at about 5-6 months and they preferred it and started leaving the kitten food so we just stuck with the adult food. They still have kitten dry food though. I was planning to stick with that until around 12 months.

Willow4987 · 27/01/2020 21:21

I think ours was about 5 months as he was eating the older cats food and wouldn’t eat the kitten food. We asked the vet as she said it was fine as he was thriving (and also having wet food that the older cat refused)

I think he might have been done by then but I can’t fully remember
