Lost our little furry boy yesterday

Our 4 year old cat, Ziggy died yesterday. Had him at the vets on Thursday due to lethargy and not eating. She suspected UTI and gave him a couple of injections and some medicine to add to his food at home. He seemed to improve somewhat on Friday, to the point we thought we wouldn't need Saturday morning's follow up appointment.

Got up yesterday morning however and his breathing was rapid and shallow. Took him to vets who listened to his chest and admitted him to give him oxygen, medication and xray.

Got a call a couple of hours later to say it wasn't looking good and another call half an hour later to say he had passed away. Acute Pneumonia which caused heart failure. I feel terrible that we weren't with him in those last hours and just so sad he's not here anymore.

We have another 8 year old tortie whom we all love but in typical tortie fashion is more sassy and not quite as tolerent of cuddles as this little fella was. My youngest DD, 11 quite simply adored Ziggy and has not stopped sobbing, she's bereft that her little pal (he really was) has gone which is making everything even more upsetting.

Not sure why I'm posting really, just nice to know that others 'get' the feeling that he wasn't 'just a cat' but a hugely loved member of our family that has been taken too soon.

I've attached a picture.. Just want to stroke that little tummy 💔

We lost our beloved Bella 3 months ago and I still have moments when I feel truly heartbroken. I the early days I just couldn't imagine feeling anything but utter pain and grief, but as they say, time does heal. These beautiful creatures come into our lives and enrich our families. It's just so sad when they go.
