Does anyone get annoyed that there’s less stuff for cats?

If that makes sense?

Like anywhere we go (John Lewis, local garden centre etc) the pet section is full Of dog stuff!

Joules have just bought out a range for dogs 😑😑

Where’s all the lush cat things!

Cats don't need things, they'll just take yours if they fancy it.

sleepymum50 · 13/01/2020 13:46

Cats are too lazy and zen to need things, and most cat owners know its a waste of money. My cat doesn’t like catnip, fish pond videos, red laser dots, catmint, clockwork mice, feathers on a string etc etc. And god forbid that I try and dress him up!! He does like a warm spot on the floor, and old cardboard box and occasionally if he’s feeling generous towards me he may half heartedly bat a piece of scrunched up newspaper for half a second. If he’s bored he’ll pop outside for some “blood sports”.

I’m sure it’s manufacturers behind all these “dressing up” cats - they would love it if they could sell cat owners more stuff. But luckily for them dogs and dog owners are mass consumers. So in a way we could say that cats are more “woke” and just want to save the planet. And we as good cat owners do whatever our cats tell us to do. Plus they pinch our stuff @wheres my chocolate.

Keepmewarm · 13/01/2020 13:51

What does your cat need?

NotMeNoNo · 13/01/2020 13:53

My cat has a food bowl and a collar, that's it. His bed is any bed/chair/jumper he fancies, he shares the dog water bowl, hunts mice or attacks ankles for fun. No interest in cat products.

MashedSpud · 13/01/2020 13:57

I agree with you regarding John Lewis. They do lack cat items but have lots of dog stuff.

Corneysjazzband · 13/01/2020 14:01

My cat has her own pillow, 3 cat beds, a cat tree and a box of toys. She is currently asleep on one of my new seat pads on a dining chair. She has wrecked the upholstery on 2 vintage arm chairs. She ignores her toys but chased my bag of sweets around the floor this morning. I don't buy cat stuff.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/01/2020 14:03

What 'cat stuff' aren't they selling which would actually be wanted?

slipperywhensparticus · 13/01/2020 14:05

I get cat stuff from frustrated cat owners whose cats wont touch it! All my cats need is the whiff of another to be interested in something I'm tempted to buy something leave it at my sisters with her cats and then bring it home

wellthatwasunexpected · 13/01/2020 14:06

As a pet retailer.... because no bugger buys it or wants to pay what it costs.

AuntyElle · 13/01/2020 14:08

I agree there’s not much exciting for cats in John Lewis etc, but I found great toys at www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk
Their fishing rod toys are the best I’ve tried and they use ethically sourced fur to make some of the toys. They’re independent and lots is Bristish-made. Some of their profits go to cat rescue too.
I sound like an ad but I was really glad to find them.

OutFoxxedByABadger · 13/01/2020 14:08

I know what you mean, but as a dog and cat owner, my dog is a lot more grateful for stuff. My cat wouldn't use a bed bought just for her, she likes the same 1.99 chase toy bought 3 christmases ago for her and is on her second scratching post of her lifetime because a human fell over and broke her first. I'm amazed she's eating treats from one of the packets she got a Christmas - the others she's just ignoring. The occasional tin of tuna or bit of human's chicken and she's happy

Heyjude20 · 13/01/2020 15:32

She doesn’t Need or want anything, but she does love her tweed bed I bought her 😂😂

Does anyone get annoyed that there’s less stuff for cats?
Fluffycloudland77 · 13/01/2020 19:51

It’s true they nick their owners stuff so they don’t need much. Mine had a covered dog bed that he liked. He didn’t sleep in it much so I said o dh I was taking it to the tip, he started using it again after that.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2020 20:23

Yes yes yes! I totally agree OP. John Lewis especially should know better.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2020 20:26

Mine do love their beds and cushions though. Stuff I buy is used

stepitupjuan · 13/01/2020 20:31

I've been owned by my cat for 4 years and ££ spent on cat things, particularly beds have been wasted. It only dawned on me after I got a wearable blanket for Christmas which is remarkably cat bed like that the reason she loves it, and my also cat bed like dressing gown and duvet, is that they smell of me. So I'm my own gift to her. Along with the comfort end of my wardrobe.

justcly · 13/01/2020 20:58

One of my cats spent the whole Christmas break inside a cardboard box. So this morning I presented her with a lovely new cocoon bed. She looked at me as if I had crapped on her foot and then climbed to the top of the bookcase.

AuntyElle · 13/01/2020 23:28

@justcly 😂😂😹

Yes! I like buying toys for my cats to disdain Grin and there are always whole stands of dog toys, with only a tiny section for cats. I can see why there are more dog toys, but the variance is disproportionate.

Heyjude20 · 14/01/2020 08:04

Even in pets at home there’s a tiny section of ping pong balls. :(

My cats don't like the many tons of cat toys they have. People keep giving me toys for them,I even got some in my SS. If they have silvervine and catnip they are happy.

GuppytheCat · 14/01/2020 08:42

We were a bit surprised to find that NewKitten adores cat toys, cat towers, cat beds, cat treats and cat puzzles, after decades of cats who ignored all of it in favour of the airing cupboard and a twig.

She also purrs correctly and says Meow like some sort of RoboCat. Must be a faulty design.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/01/2020 08:45

Or limited edition?.

I don’t think cat beds are padded enough or big enough for adult cats.
