Moving on to a more cost effective cat food

Hi guys,

I am about to go on maternity leave and currently used a premium brand cat food. What do people recommend as am so worried about money and this is one area I could definitely reduce my monthly spend on...

Wet or dry or both?

Both, at the moment I'm using encorepetfood.co.uk/cat

Maybe have a look on zooplus for grain free decent food. I also use encore dry food or thrive dry.

Have you tried Zooplus? I use a variety of the large tinned German brands like Granatapet, Feringa and Wild Freedom. I have three cats to feed and was looking for a high quality but economical food, especially as I only feed wet which is more expensive. Feringa for instance is under £8 for 6 x 400g tins which works out to only 22p per meal, whereas Encore is about 91p per meal I think (based on a 70g meal)? All the abovementioned brands are like 98% meat, 2% broth or herbs, no grains or carbohydrates which is actually better than Encore.

I’d like a cat food ours will eat! We are working our way through every brand, and they will only eat the ones, that look like flaked chicken - some of which are only complementary foods! 😳

Our Mog has always had a variety of Felix, Whiskas, Gourmet pouches and was seriously fussy. I was in Aldi the other day and saw their own pouches, Vitacat, I think it was called, and thought I'd try it. He wolfed it down! Much cheaper than the bigger brands. I'm going to try him on their Vitacat (?) foil trays this weekend, again, much cheaper. He also went through a stage of really enjoying Pets at Home own brand pouches which looks much meatier than the 'big' brands, and again, much cheaper. HTH.

The Aldi foil tray foods were 29p I think, compared to Sheba which is 55p a tray... Definitely worth a try. Vary it around with some of the other 'lesser' supermarket brands.
