Any ideas on what he's done to his eye?

Ginger cat has just come in with his eye swollen shut. He can open it & I think he's maybe had a scrap. I've bathed it with warm water & given him a cuddle, he's lay here chilling. It's the first injury he's ever come home with so I'm panicking but can't get to the vet until tomorrow.....

Any ideas on what he's done to his eye?

Cheddar will occasionally have one eye shut. Usually she'll open it after a wipe. Has he got something in it?

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/01/2020 22:13

I don't think so, I've had a look & given it a little wipe. Underneath is swollen, think he'd have a shiner if he was a person!

I'm going to keep him in tonight, hopefully it'll be better in the morning!

Ours looked like this and turns out she had an ulcer on her eyeball (probably due to a scratch of some description). Get him to the vet as soon as you are able as it needs looking at

Oh and if it is an ulcer, be prepared for eye drops a couple of times a day (we were not friends that week!!)

BrusselPout · 05/01/2020 22:22

He's gorgeous btw!!

NoSquirrels · 05/01/2020 22:25

Yeah, unfortunately I’d say vet tomorrow if it’s not open by then - eye stuff can deteriorate quickly and you might need drops. Boy cat got a long seed head caught in his eye in the summer and it formed an ulcer - better to get it checked, I’d say.

When my boy gets this I assume he has scratched it on a twig.

Bathing with boiled cooled water a few times a day may help.

I use colloidal silver to bath my boys eye. He hates it but touch wood I've not needed a trip to the vets with it.

You can order off amazon.

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/01/2020 22:40

Thanks all! I appreciate the advice.

I'll see how he is tomorrow & take him to the vet if needed.

Brussel thank you, I agree Smile

Can he open it today?.

StrawberryFizz26 · 06/01/2020 07:31

fluffy he can, thank god. All back to normal, I think as a pp said he's scratched it on a twig as it did look as if there was a tiny scratch.

Thanks for checking in

I’d bathe it 2 or 3 times a day with salt water, eyes are ideal breeding conditions for bacteria.

StrawberryFizz26 · 06/01/2020 09:34

Will do! I've ordered some colloidal silver too. I did try to take a pic this morning but he's buggered off!

Is silver safe for animals?.

Want2beme · 06/01/2020 11:35

Wow, what a stunner. Hope he's better soon.

madeyemoodysmum · 06/01/2020 11:51

I use silver in my cats only externally. Eyes etc. I haves it on myself loads of times. It's amazing for insect bites. Cuts heal in no time I even used it successfully for a bout of folliculitis my dd had We never needed to use the antibiotics doc gave her.

Read the reviews. I'd never drink it tho. That's just weird.

StrawberryFizz26 · 06/01/2020 12:31

mad defo seems to be something useful that's worth keeping handy!

Have I missed something with the drinking bit??! Hmm

Some people drink it but if you drink too much your skin turns blue. No joke. It's irreversible as well 🙀

StrawberryFizz26 · 06/01/2020 18:01

I will NOT be drinking it then! Not that I was ever going too! Wink
