Cattery or neighbour popping in 3x a day?

Hi,

we are due to go away sat-sunday this weekend. Currently Demelza is booked into a cattery but last night I had a panic. She absolutely loves running up and down the stairs and sleeping on youngest bed. The thought of her in a small room from Friday-monday makes me feel sick.
My next door neighbours have said they are about this weekend and are happy to pop in sat lunch, and dinner and then Sunday morning lunch and afternoon. We leave about 8am sat and will be back around 7pm Sunday.

would this be a better option?

Normally I would always say neighbour/catsitter but as she's so young, I would be concerned about escape risk or her getting in trouble indoors (as kittens are so crazy!) in this case and would probably use the cattery on this occasion.

I always feel more relaxed when my two are in the cattery, and I know they love it there. They get more spoiled than they do at home. If it's only 36 hours though they do stay at home. I have a really good cat sitter.

Generally speaking, cats are more attached to places than people. So popping in neighbours are the best option.

With a young cat I’d go with the cattery.
My much older cat gets distressed with car travel so I have someone come in twice a day for her.

If you do decide to leave her at home will you be leaving the tree up for her? Grin

Whatever you do, don’t leave the door to the room with the Christmas tree open while you’re away. Even if she doesn’t touch it any more!

Neighbours definitely. I've always used a cat sitter for Harry as I couldnt' bear the thought of him being shut in a pen in a cattery.

Mine are a little older at nearly 20 weeks and we just spent a long weekend away. My sitter came and spoiled them rotten and they weren't bothered in the slightest when we came back. I definitely missed them more than they me. And it was nice to know they were in the comfort of their own home.

Mine went to a cattery, he got lonely when we left him over night to get married & really missed us.

Then we tried pil house sitting but that didn’t go well.

He hated other cats but liked the company while in the cattery. I used to worry there would be a house fire so the cattery felt safer.

Ohh I don't know. I would normally say neighbour. But when they're kittens they are just more vulnerable and also more of an escape risk. It depends how much you trust your neighbours I think.

Depends on the cattery mine was indoor/outdoor with lots of scratch posts, ledges etc. God, I miss it.

My neighbour is coming over xmas I know they will be fine but they womt be fed on time.

So Demelza has gone off on her little holiday and I just want to cry 😩🙈. Missing her loads. I feel sick and so guilty. I hope she’s ok, she won’t have much room to run around like being at home. Will she be ok?!
She kept meowing for me when we left 😩

She’ll be fine. My cat was a highly strung Bengal & he was ok. One time I collected him before he’d learnt the sound of my new car and he was sat watching them groom their horses calm as you like.

As soon as I called him he started yelling 😹 at me.

She’ll be getting all the strokes from the staff.

Dh used to make me ring every morning to check the cat was ok. He wouldn’t do it. Not the done thing for the dh to ring apparently.

Mine get spoilt rotten. They are one of the staff's favourite clients. She puts them in a pen so she can see them all the time. Mine are in the cattery over Christmas, but due to my shift being changed I'll be at home for two of the nights they are there. They will love it but it'll be too quiet at home!

So just to reassure you that cats actually like the safety and security of being in a crate so she's probably quite content.

For future reference, home visits are the least disruptive option and really convenient.
