Male cat has over-groomed to the point of baldness

TSS Cat has groomed and groomed himself so that half his tummy and the inside of his back legs are bald and look sore. Somethings obviously stressing him out so I’ve bought Fellway plug ins and have had them for about 2 weeks. He’s more chilled, but still grooming and grooming. What time n earth can I do????

My cat did this and the vet said she had thyroid problems

You could try viridian pure beauty oil as a food supplement and remove different food groups as a precaution

Both these worked with my female cat who groomed and grimes and made herself ill and sore.
Turned out she was allergic to the freeze dried chicken treats I fed her
The oil went down a treat in plain boiled rice with (eventually ) a bit of tuna

Interestingly thyroid problems were ruled out with my cat and no more triggers for anxiety eg new home or baby or cat

Are there other symptoms of thyroid issues? Vet saw TSScat and said he was stressed.

He eats Whiskas sachets, Iams biscuits and Dreamies as treats.

My vet gives Ovarid for my overgrooming cat . Diabetes can result though and caution is necessary .

It's not recommended in UK I think but I had no choice ,her legs were bleeding .

Ours did this in the summer, but not to quite the same extent. Vet said it looked like classic over grooming and was likely to be caused by stress or potentially a dust allergy. Gave her an injection of something. We thought dust allergy as neighbours had had building work done, and it settled right down after a few weeks (when the building work had stopped).

Try zyklene on his food. It did the trick for my parents cat.

My cat ate a lot and was thin.

We used a product called Kalm Aid in our cats food.

She did this and stripped her tummy and thighs bare. She did this after a house move and birth of our baby.

She also did it again when she got fleas.

But the Kalm Aid really seemed to help her until she got used to the situation, or we got rid of the damn fleas!

Have you given him a flea treatment? One of our girls is allergic to fleas, we only found out when she caught them and groomed herself bald. Advocate fixed it

Steroid jabs are the only thing that works for mine. When I start seeing him chucking up hair balls (every 12 weeks or so) we go to the vets and have a jab

One of mine has this and it also turned out to be a flea allergy. One thorough treatment and some feliway to help her destress, and she’s never done it since. Hope you get yours sorted OP!

Another vote for zylkene here. Expensive and took a couple of weeks for results to start show but absolutely did the trick for my Tom cat that was getting stressed over a territorial dispute.
