Please save me and my kitten from a lifetime of embarrassment: names please!

I'm about to adopt the foster kitten we've had with us since birth.

Her name - which wasn't our choice - is Guppy. She's been Guppy for nearly 10 weeks now and it's stuck.

DS, DD and DH insist that that is her One True Name and cannot be changed but they'll concede that she can have a suitably similar alias for the vet.

Any suggestions? They've already vetoed Augusta and Agatha.

Regulation (and completely identifying) picture attached, I do hope.

I think you want something similar sounding, so that when the vet is talking to her she won't be confused. what about Gracie, or Gypsy? She is gorgeous by the way Halloween Grin

Gupta?

TheLongRider · 28/10/2019 12:21

She looks like a Guppy to me! Grin

She looks like an Agatha to me!

OhMyGiddyAunty · 28/10/2019 12:26

Just call her Guppy... it's adorable!

Winterdaysarehere · 28/10/2019 12:26

I know an identical dcat. Martha.

MilkItTilITurnItIntoCheese · 28/10/2019 12:28

Our 11 year old looks exactly like her. Her name is Fizz. Vets don’t bat an eyelid.

GuppytheCat · 28/10/2019 12:36

Oooh, some good ideas here.
Juniper is really nice, and Guinevere is worth a shot.

I'm resigned to her being Guppy at home. But our vet calls the animals in by first name and surname - and our surname is [let's say] Beagle, so she already sounds quite species-confused. Plus, she thinks she's a dog, and plays fetch and tug.

I will not reveal the name of my first cat - but it was always embarrassing at the vet Grin.
I'm with the rest of your family - keep Guppy, it's nowhere near as bad as it could be

Toddlerteaplease · 28/10/2019 13:52

Guppy is a brilliant name for a cat. I'm with your family and you should keep it. It's no worse than having Cheddar called out at the vet!

Toddlerteaplease · 28/10/2019 13:54

My vets do that. And they call out ....'s mum if they've stayed in!

Toddlerteaplease · 28/10/2019 13:55

Come on @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats you have to tell us now!

SunshineAngel · 28/10/2019 14:01

My cat is called Cookie.. given to her before we adopted her so she left it.

But I was just thinking.. that sounds quite like Guppy. It could be a decent alternative if you want to avoid confusion.

Couchpotato3 · 28/10/2019 14:03

I was at the vet's this morning and "Macavity" was called in before me.

Gingaaarghpussy · 28/10/2019 14:07

I had a tortie called splodge.

ODFOx · 28/10/2019 14:20

Poecilia for posh/the vets.
Guppy for everyday.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/10/2019 14:26

Sorry Toddler - can't do it.
Suffice it to say that you should never name a cat with an adjective.

GuppytheCat · 28/10/2019 14:31

Much as I appreciate Poecilia, ODFox, it does sound like something infectious happening to your insides!

Guppy is adorable! Love her! My old cat was called Merkin, and my surname begins with an M too - always made me laugh at the vets when we were called in.

GuppytheCat · 28/10/2019 14:49

Umm, isn't a merkin a fake fur front, so to speak?

FizzyGreenWater · 28/10/2019 14:52

Guppy is lovely!

She could be Gudrun at the vet?

Pcosmama · 28/10/2019 15:11

What about Gabrielle/a?
Penelope could even (tenuously) work?
I quite like Gwen names too, Gwendolyn etc...
That said, I don't think Guppy is that bad, I know someone with a chihuaha called Pamela.

PAMELA.

GuppytheCat · 28/10/2019 15:15

Stylish!

I'm going to need more cats to use up all these excellent suggestions.

(To forestall the usual question, she doesn't have any available siblings, but she likes people very much so I think she'll be OK.)

Poppy?

AFairlyHardAvocado · 28/10/2019 15:19

Our cousins had a lovely kitten called puppy! She was so much more like a dog in her behaviour from day one and it just stuck - would be a perfect soundalike for yours 🐱

My bunny also had an unusual name and I think it made her even more memorable to the vets which was actually a positive as they were extra fond of her Smile
