New kitten but terrified of rats and mice 😩

New kitten who we al adore but think that’s keeping me up all night is the fear of the rats and mice she will bring home. We have patio doors so She won’t be able to just walk straight in unless is the bloody summer.

Am I just going to have to man up?! I’m so scared 😂

It depends on how good a hunter she turns out to be. Some cats are useless at it, or too lazy to bother.
Others - including my own psycho killer - are dedicated, ruthless and single minded in their pursuit of the local rodents!
If you’re lucky, yours will kill and eat outside. Mine prefers to bring her prey indoors wounded and release it in the house, for hours of fun flushing it out and chasing it round the furniture. I regularly come downstairs in the morning to a selection of dismembered body parts - coils of intestines, beaks, tails etc. Scrubbing bloodstains out of the hall carpet is a cheery start to most days!
However, my house backs on to barley fields, so there is an endless supply of field mice. If yours is more urban, the hunting might not be so rich, and your kitten would have less scope for her murdering.
I’m afraid the chances are you will have to clean up a crime scene at some point, OP. Invest in a pair of Marigolds and grit your teeth!

Don’t leave the door open? Keep her in at dawn and dusk (and overnight) to reduce chances of hunting.

You might be lucky but if she is a hunter you do get used to it.

One of mine is completely inept and can only "hunt" already dead things. The other one has brought home a variety of dead and injured creatures.

The dead ones are easier, just sling them in the bin and scrub the blood away. The injured ones can be more disturbing, I end up apologising to them as I release them to die in the garden.

I now also have lighting quick reflexes if I see her running across the garden with something in her mouth. Fun times.

I'm petrified of rodents. Fortunately I have Persians who are too stupid to hunt!

We live in a cul de sac so no fields really. And our garden has a 6 foot brick wall round it.

We have a cat regularly poo in the front garden Angry and the other day when dh left the grass too long I saw it with a mouse in its mouth 😩.

Will keep her in at dusk and dawn and overnight x
