Cat with injury, wearing cone. Brother now keeps attacking her...

They normally get on well and don't fight with each other.
Our girl cat is recovering from a bite on her side (from a tom cat that comes into our garden...attacks our cats and ducks off again). She has a soft cone on to stop her licking it. She is really miserable.
Her brother is completely freaked out by her, keeps sniffing her and swiping at her. She in turn is now terrified of him...flattened ears, cowering.
Any suggestions of things we could do to help?

(Have a feliway friends plug in...it's doing sod all.)

Separate them?

Instead of a cone she might do better with one of those little suits; it’s like a baby gro but of thicker material so they can’t bite or scratch through it.

I thought these were usually recommended by vets when there’s another cat that might aggravate the injury

We've tried to, but none of the doors in our house actually shut and stay shut (apart from the bathroom...when locked from inside...and it's the size of a match box)

One of my cats was ill with a liver infection, and must of smelt odd as the other one kept hissing at her. We kept them apart for a couple of days and harmony was restored.

You say your doors dont shut, is there no way you could rig one so it does stay shut somehow?

Kitty vest?

hazeyjane · 01/10/2019 22:40

The body suit sounds a better idea, she has already got the collar off twice, I'll call vet tomorrow....we've had to move to a new vet, and it has been pretty rubbish....so we might be better off buying one.

Ours cost about a tenner, I think; they’re reusable so you can just put it in the wash and keep it for if it’s needed again

How easy are they to get on/off?....we have to apply hydrogel twice a day (wound is on the side of her body.)

Ok...have managed to keep one cat in kitchen and sort of barricaded the door. Not going to work longer term, but it will keep them apart for now.

Just wish the big bloody cat coming in the garden would stop attacking our cats.

the suits are called Suiticals. You can get them on Amazon Prime

I got our cat bodysuit from the vet

Poor Dusty. He didn't like it

Ah bless him, cross little face.

Ginny's not the biggest fan of the collar, but she has managed to keep it on, and after a night being kept separate from each other, her brother has settled down a bit.
