Need a handhold stray cat had kittens in my house

I already have 4 fur-facesx who I love and adore. A few weeks ago another little cat appeared stealing their food so I ended up feeding her to as she was so thin and hungry.

Four weeks ago tomorrow she ran the gauntlet sat next to me and wanted some fuss of course I cuddled her she's beautiful. However 45 mins later she went behind the sofa and I checked on her to find her panting and then I realised she was in labour!!
She's only a kitten herself! I was terrified for her.
It was a long night and she did great, I feel immensely privileged that she came to me to have these kittens.

Now I'm heartbroken, as I know I can't keep mommy cat or these three bundles of joy. It's killing me inside, I'm crying every day, I just want them to end up with people who will love them and care for them. How do I go about this? I rang a couple of cat charities to be told they can't help.

Also they are four weeks old tomorrow when should they start weaning?

I need a handhold and help.

Here are the 3 little beauties they melt my heart

Can you phone around local vets for advice? They might know more places locally than you do.

Alltheteen · 27/09/2019 15:35

If you can keep them until 9 weeks could the charity advertise them for adoption while they are still with you. One of our local ones did this when they were full.

steppemum · 27/09/2019 16:15

well, with catnip and Lily, you will have homes for them!

steppemum · 27/09/2019 16:17

i'd love a ginger or white kitten.
Sadly dh has put his foot down. He is not a pet person and we have a dog and a cat and a large tank of fish. 3 chickens, 2 ducks and until recently we had a free roaming rabbit.

(He is daft about the dog though and the fish are his)

Syfylady · 27/09/2019 20:36

I'm really surprised that no cat charities can help. Have you thought about putting up an advert at your local vets, saying that you have a cat a three kittens that need good homes? Regarding weaning, that's usually around 6-8 weeks, you can try giving them some kitten food at that age. If they need less milk, momma cat won't get too drained. Well done for taking them in and looking after them.

Vinorosso74 · 27/09/2019 21:06

@Syfylady charities would help if they can but it is likely they have no space or fosterers and the cats are all in a safe space in the Ops home. That said @thecatneuterer has been in touch with OP.

What little poppets. We have a pure white cat, and she can hear the click of her food cupboard being opened from the very end of the garden, even if the back door’s closed. I hope you find lovely homes, OP.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/09/2019 16:22

Is the mum white? My cat is pure white and apparently they have to have a white parent. I don’t know because he was a rescue. But he isn’t deaf.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2019 16:32

I'm only here for the kitten photos and I wasn't disappointed!

LadyJaneGrey56 · 29/09/2019 17:10

No helpful advice but following this now to check they all find good homes..... please update us op.

steppemum · 03/10/2019 14:00

any news on these cuties?

Floofffs · 05/10/2019 19:29

@Icepinkeskimo

Have you been able to line up future home? If not I know a Rescue that can help in south London.

Good Morning everyone,

Firstly I want to thank you all for your beautiful messages and advice. Special thanks to thecatneuterer, who I have spoken to and there is now a plan in action for the poppets and mummy cat, who I have called Mia, (for the time being till she gets a loving family with one of her kittens)

Well this week, we have had a few milestones, the ginger ninja learnt to escape the 'holding pen' and taught the other two to do the same. It was like a kitten version of escape from Colditz. Funny thing was when they got tired they returned to the pen for their nap.

They have started eating, and they don't want the soft food! I tried and tried but nooo not interested.

The other thing is the 4am rhino race...the bedroom turns into a race track, as they charge around it. Mia sits on the bed watching and must be thinking what on Earth is going on.

Here is a photo of them having a nap at 4.30 this morning. I'm exhausted, but loving it at the same time.

I don't know what you're talking about though - they are clearly little angels 😂

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/10/2019 10:19

It's always the ginger ones you have to watch! They are gorgeous!

Soubriquet · 06/10/2019 14:54

Oh god they are just so gorgeous

How dare you say they are naughty

I bet you do it really and blame it on the kitties Wink

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/10/2019 22:33

So pleased to read this update. What wee toots they are.

Icepinkeskimo · 07/10/2019 17:10

Litter box training, is stressing sometimes, scrap that it is stressing. We have had a few 'misses' today but we are getting there. So the washing machine is on again....

In other news Ginger Ninja was being picked on a little today. He's ok gave him a cuddle and they are all sleeping together.

Lovely kittens - what a great job you're doing!

For information, as far as I'm aware Battersea Dogs & Cats Home never turn a dog or cat away.
