Cat peeing in front of the litter box

Well, the title says it all. This used to happen occasionally and I assumed the cat simply stood too close to the edge, since there also was some pee inside - sometimes more, sometimes less.

But now, since about a month, it happens almost every fucking day! It is extremely annoying to clean this up all the time.

Does anyone have an idea why this happens and/or how I can stop it?

I have 2 cats, both female and 13 years old. We've had them since they were kitten. They don't pee anywhere else, I haven't changed the litter in the past 5 years, the litter box has been on the same spot since we moved into our current apartment a little more than 2 years ago. There were no special changes recently.

Do you have just the one litter box?
What type is it - i.e. covered, high sided, etc.?

Has she had a senior health check including blood and urine tests to rule out medical problems? UTI, kidney disease etc. could manifest in painful or more frequent urination.

Also, how do you clean after she's peed on the floor? It needs to be an enzyme cleaner to get rid of the smell or she'll be attracted back to the same spot.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I've just one litter box ... I know it often says you should have one per cat plus one, but I've only read that after I've already had them for a while and there never was any trouble with only having one, so I considered and still consider it pointless to get more.
It's a closed one - a lid with a swinging door.

They didn't have a check up like that. Could problems with urination lead to them peeing in front of the box? There still always is some pee in the litter box as well, so apparently she pees when in the box but very close to the door ... or right outside the opening with her bum towards the litter box.

I haven't tried the enzymes yet, will certainly do that!
