Said goodbye to my old lady tonight

I posted a few weeks ago under a different name about my old lady cat who had kidney disease. She deteriorated over the weekend and we ended up taking her to the emergency vet at 10.30pm.

I’m heartbroken. She was a beautiful splodgy white black and ginge and gave everyone who would let her (and some who didn’t) a really vigorous nose bump.

She was ready to go. But fucking hell it hurts so much.

I'm sorry, Tweezer, I really am. You must be heartbroken. 💐

So sorry for your loss. It hurts so much to let them go, even when you know it is the kindest thing.

So sorry to hear about your lovely lady.

TweezerMay · 05/08/2019 14:30

Thanks everyone. Bleugh even though I know she was ready there was always a slight hope of a miraculous recovery, but no. She was such a good girl, never any trouble. She was 14 and a half, which seems to young. It’s shit.

Thanks for listening.

I think I commented on that thread. I am so so very sorry for your loss. You know you’ve done the right thing but of course it hurts. You’re grieving.
She was so lucky to have you. Flowers

I'm so sorry for your loss,
We lost our girl a month ago she was 21, I'd had her 19 years.
Your heart breaks, be kind and gentle to yourself and remember what a terrific journey you had together.

thrumylookingglass · 05/08/2019 21:34

So sorry😢! It’s always hard.

Blankspace4 · 05/08/2019 21:57

So sorry to hear this. I had to have our old girl put to sleep last Christmas and it was devastating. I sobbed for several days, it was genuinely heartbreaking. All I can say is that it WILL get easier. Try and remember all the lovely memories and print out some photos. Sending love and kind thoughts.

TweezerMay · 06/08/2019 13:08

Thank you everyone. You’re all so lovely. I’ve tried to post this several times, so apologies if I repeat myself.

And Flowers to everyone who has been in a similar situation. I’m trying to steel myself to clearing her stuff away. We made a den for her in her last week so she didn’t have to wander far. A tray, a box she liked to sleep in with a fleecy blanket, her water bowl. As much as I’ve hated having a litter tray sat right next to me I feel weird about moving it. But one of my other cats is sat on my lap at the moment so that’s a good enough excuse not to move.

Bless you. We felt better for clearing her things away, so we weren’t reminded of her last days, but just do things as they feel right for you. They really are a part of the family x

Els1e · 06/08/2019 20:46

So very sorry 💐. My boy, Eric, went last September with complications from diabetes. I do miss the grumpy sod.

HuggedTheRedwoods · 06/08/2019 21:15

Depending on how the other cats have reacted, you might find they get some comfort from keeping their pals blanket around for a while. We had to let our old boy go in March and I moved his food bowls but our little cat jumped in his favourite bed before I could face moving it and although she did/has grieved terribly for him I think having the bed with his scent helped her through those first weeks.
