My cat has a hard lump in his tummy all of a sudden

I just picked my cat up around his stomach and can feel a pretty decent sized hard lump.

He's been hiding on and off since last Friday; he was in a fight in the garden and seemed to get a real fright, has been quite solitary and on and off his food since then. I just attributed it to the fight. 😢

Has anyone had this with their cat? I've booked the vet for tomorrow afternoon and I'm freaking out a little bit. He's always been healthy.

And yes, I'm adding the obligatory pic.

My boy had an infected bite, so hopefully it's something simple like that. It had to be drained, cleaned and he had ABs. Lots of puss came out, but treatment cleared it first time. Let us know how the appointment goes.

Yes, it could be that, he has a little bit of fur that's matted near the lump so maybe a bit of pus (it's not blood from what I can see).

Thanks!

Let us know how u get on zxxxxx

The vet says it is likely an abscess but it feels a bit weird. Got antibiotics and if no improvement, biopsy on Monday. He's still eating, drinking, going out etc, so will see how we get on.

So vet didn't feel it was worth trying to drain for some reason. On ABs I'd expect him to pick up a bit after 36/48 hours. When my boy had an infected bite, he wasn't his usual self for 48 hours but we then got to the stage where he was growling if we got anwhere near, so if you're not happy first thing Saturday morning phone and ask for them to check him over (unless you have the benefit of Sunday surgery)

I'm going to phone tomorrow and get an appointment for Monday. He's ok you know, eating, drinking, going out. But just a bit quiet and keeping to himself more than usual. And the lump is definitely no smaller.

Hopefully the ABs will kick in over the weekend. Either way, if you can get an appointment for Monday, at least they can reassess. It's good he's eating and drinking though.
