Does anyone use an outdoor litter tray?

Currently have an indoor one with a lid and door and use good clumping litter but the smell still permeates the house (not helped by the fact that I'm pregnant and my sense of smell has gone mental). I want to try an outdoor one but DP (who, to be fair, would be the one cleaning it) is convinced that other cats will poo there and foxes will spray/mark the outside (we do have both other cats and foxes in the garden). Does anyone here have an outdoor litter tray and is this a problem? Any other tips for using one or which brand to buy? Thanks!

You can get self cleaning robotic litter trays now.

I put ours out every morning and haven’t noticed any cats using it. I only put a bit of litter in any way as I do a full change and wash every night.

Not quite the point but we have a visiting cat who I am trying to discourage, so we are leaving out used litter trays by the gate. Scooping out any poo, but leaving the pee'd on litter to just reinforce their scent/territory

and we have seen our female cat out there in the yard pooping away! So she obviously likes it, and I said to dh maybe we should get an outside covered one as an option, as she is normally very fussy and secretive about her litter tray usage ...And won't use a tray in the house if it has already been used , but she's using the used one we put outside.

We're not leaving them out forever btw, before anyone condemns me as an Enviromental Hazard....we are just replacing the house ones to fresh trays which we do every day anyways and the used ones are sitting out by the gate in our yard till the end of the day.

It does seem to be working too, as the visitor wasn't seen for two weeks and we stopped leaving the trays out earlier this week and dh spotted him yesterday!

I have outdoor litter trays - they're my ruddy flower beds 🤦‍♀️🤣

I agree with your DH that they'll probably attract other animals that you don't want - I would up DH litter cleaning duties to daily (one of the perks of being pregnant not having to clean out the litter!)

We have a wooden planter in the corner of the garden with top soil. Works perfectly for our two. We clean it everyday and top it up every week. Cats love it!
